POPSWhy having a negative attitude does not help you Why having a negative attitude does not help you Everyone finds themselves in unfavorable circumstances and negative situations now and then. When caught in this kind of situation we often ask ourselves or raise our eyes to the sky and ask, “Why me?” We are then attacked by doubts about ourselves and our efforts at correcting the situation.

POPSWish You Were Beer Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, it is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver. I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day. Remember: "I" before "E," except in Budweiser. I drink only to make my friends seem interesting. Everybody should believe in something; I believe I'll have another drink. Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXdNnw99-Ic

POPSBeautiful Minds
I've been interested in this topic for a very long time, and I wonder not only why the two seem to go hand-in-hand, but is there some causality? Is it that being different and therefore often ostracized for these differences makes one fall into depression? That doesn't seem to explain it - what about visionaries like Yayoi Kusama who were "insane" before their creative inclinations forced them to express what they imagined? Then, does that mean that most of these individuals are in some way "mad" to begin with, and therefore are able to come up with other ways of looking at things than those of us who think "normally"? Not only is it tragic that our most brilliant thinkers fall into these states, but it makes the very thought of pursuing intelligence and going into any... well, I don't want to say career, in this case it's more like a life-long obsession, a love... but in any case, it's almost scary to even wander into "that field" knowing how one feels while there; knowing the ef

POPS"Polanski's victim and me" by Robert Goolrick More: it is the absolute, final, and total end of childhood, of any sense of innocence and wonder. Perhaps the girl in California had already lost hers. Perhaps her mother manipulated the situation. I, frankly, don’t give a good goddamn. That girl is forever defined by that moment, as I have been defined by my own moment of terror and pain and horror. There is, for me, no place on this whole planet that is safe. I move farther and farther from the center of things. I find myself in hotel rooms or houses in remote places where nobody knows where I am, and very few even care. I have been an alcoholic, a drug user, a sexual deviant and addict. I have tried with what heart I have left to be kind and generous and loving, and I have wrecked my life and hurt people I love. I have tried to be whole, to be a regular man inside a regular man’s skin, and I have failed miserably.

POPSWelfare: The 'Shameless' Generation of Benefit Addicts Almost five million adults live in jobless homes The Crompton family, nicknamed 'Britain's Biggest Freeloaders' by their neighbours in Hull, live in a seven-bed house and get 33,000 a year. Harry Crompton, 51, has been out of work for 15 years and his wife Tracey, 41, has never had a job. Yet thanks to the generosity of the welfare state they receive 32,656 a year. The Cromptons were provided with two semis knocked together by the council at a cost of 20,000. The couple's only income from paid work is 20 a week from eldest son Michael, who has a factory job. They receive a further 628 a week in income support, disability allowance, carer's allowance, child tax credit, plus 120 a week rent on their seven-bedroom house. A working parent would have to earn 46,500 a year to match their income.

POPSAlcoholic Rats Show Kudzu May Help Addicted Humans Though kudzu extract is already available in health food stores, "it's not a good drug," said study leader Ivan Diamond, vice president of Gilead Sciences, a biopharmaceutical company that is working to develop a kudzu-based compound for humans. That's because kudzu extract—unregulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration—is poorly absorbed by the body and its concentration varies wildly from bottle to bottle, he said. ~~~~~~~~~~~ OR -- a "good excuse" to let the pharmaceutical companies control it, thereby increasing their profits even more.

POPSWoman who set fire to sex pest's genitals becomes local hero more: It alleged the Briton took down his trousers and started waving his genitals at a number of girls. He then specifically "forcefully fondled" the 26-year old Greek woman, asking her to take hold of his genitals. After asking him to stop harassing her, the police said, she poured the alcoholic drink Sabucco on his genitals (an Italian brand type of Greek ouzo or French Pernod drink). This again allegedly failed to stop his advances, so the woman seized a lighter and set fire to the alcohol-drenched genitals, local press reports said. The charges were levelled after reports claimed that the assailant's genitals suffered considerable damage, requiring that he remain in a private clinic in Malia. Travel operator sources at Malia said his treatment is being covered by his travel insurance. The name of the clinic is not being disclosed and is under discreet police guard, police sources said.

POPSBanned in Alabama This is kinda hard to believe that they would ban this fine bottle of wine! The wine's label is copied from an 1895 French advertising poster for Cycles Gladiator bicycles. It shows a side view of a full-bodied nymph flying alongside a winged bicycle.
