Zinn: US 'In Need of Rebellion'
papananook
by papananook  9-9-2008    5
Obviously, since the war in Iraq, the rest of the world has fallen away from the United States, and if American foreign policy continues in the way it has been - that is aggressive and violent and uncaring about the feelings and thoughts of other people - then the influence of the United States is going to decline more and more. This is an empire which is on the one hand the most powerful empire that ever existed; on the other hand an empire that is crumbling - an empire that has no future ... because the rest of the world is alienated and simply because this empire is top-heavy with military commitments, with bases around the world, with the exhaustion of its own resources at home. leading to more and more discontent and home, so I think the American empire will go the way of other empires and I think it is on its way now. Q: What should the world know about the United States? HZ: What I find many people in the rest of the world don't know is that there is an oppos

Caution likely at EU summit on Russia
dl211
by dl211  8-28-2008
BRUSSELS, Belgium: When it comes to action over Georgia, Russia has the European Union over a barrel. In fact, 1.2 million barrels. That's the how much Russian crude is pumped westward everyday down the Druzhba pipeline to fuel Europe's economies. This hard economic reality explains why Monday's emergency EU summit will struggle to produce much more than a slap on the wrist for Russia, despite Europe's exasperation over Moscow's invasion of Georgia and backing for its two separatist regions to break away. The EU gets roughly a third of its oil and about 40 percent of its natural gas imports from Russia.

Activists pierce Israeli blockade of Gaza
masbury
by masbury  8-24-2008    2
"The activists' group was comprised of people between 22 and 81, included students, lawyers, doctors, journalists and an online poker player, organisers said. Mostly American and British, they included Lauren Booth, the sister-in-law of Tony Blair, the former British prime minister who is now a Middle East envoy. Many of the activists said they had received death threats before they set sail, leading some to drop out."

US blamed over S Ossetia crisis
tabsey
by tabsey  8-14-2008
The invasion of Iraq, the "ring of confidence" missile bases, the training of Georgian troops would have been enough to upset Russia. Add to this the nearby oil pipeline and the reason for the Bush should become apparent. Too many nuclear powers now to be playing stupid games such as this. Bush backers would have salivated to dehydration if Russia did the same in Cuba again, or South American countries.

Israel and Oil Prices--"Geopolitical" Factors Ignored
blueridge
by blueridge  6-27-2008
Israel threatens Iran, oil sets new record high. See the pattern? It happens every time they threaten, or the US does. All these articles show on google search and are dated June 2008, now oil prices are up to $140 per barrel. Yet no one is talking about war-mongering as a factor in high oil prices, even though Iran is the 4th largest exporter in the world. As some would say...Duh! It is not a supply issue. Repeating for the upteenth time, high gas prices are due to: 1. speculative trading 2. dollar devaluation 3. geopolitical issues (war, rumors of war, US war policy, Israel) 4. government debt, increased money supply, war spending. These all tie together and started oil's price surge when the Iraq war began, and not before. War policy drives oil up on the trade floor.

Shooting the messenger

The changing threat to the press in battle zones. Shana'a's case is but one of many in recent years which has indicated that journalists reporting from conflict zones are no longer regarded as impartial by the combatants. As a result, increasing numbers of journalists have joined the casualty lists. The deliberate targeting of the press in war zones can probably be dated back to the Balkan conflict of the 1990's. When the shocking atrocities committed by the Serbs, Bosnian Muslims and Croats were filmed or reported, the media fell under suspicion, and was accused of supporting one faction against another.

Held for 6.5 years, tortured, no charges or trial, now seriously ill. Arrested while traveling thru Pakistan to an assignment for Al Jazeera. "I'm very sad because of the condition of our brothers who remain." Flown home in chains, faces no charges there. "True peace," he says, "does not come through military force ... Justice comes from lifting oppression ..." Unbelievable. Outrageous. Who will be called to account for this crime?

What Would Reverend Jeremiah Wright Do?
merrie
by merrie  5-8-2008    5
In an emotional testimony he tells the world how, as he was watching YouTube clips of the Reverend, a voice said "Follow this man." He then made his hajj to Chicago, joining Rev. Wright's congregation. Everyone is acepted under Jeremiah Wright's large tent as long as they accept a few simple dogmas and agree to repeat them five times a day during prayers: * Being White is immoral. Every White person is guilty of conspiring against the Blacks * Being rich is immoral. Every rich person is guilty of conspiring against the poor * America is the infamous product of conspiracy by rich White males to create the source of all evil. Later it turned even more evil under the rule of Zionist puppet masters. * Jesus was a homeless African-American male who fell victim to a conspiracy of the rich Whites against the poor Blacks that resulted in racial profiling, followed by torture and crucifiction * The 10 Commandments are optional.
