POPSBlackwater in the Phillipines: Murder for Hire In February 2009, Blackwater changed its name to "Xe," (pronounced like the letter "Z"), as part of a "re-branding" effort aimed at helping the company distance itself from negative incidents such as a September 2007 shooting in Nisoor Square in Baghdad, Iraq that killed at least a dozen civilians. The company says its latest name change is meant to reflect a new focus. Blackwater / Xe spokesperson Anne Tyrrell said, "We've taken the company to a place where it is no longer accurately described as Blackwater." Its subsidiaries also have new names: Blackwater Airships is now Guardian Flight Systems, Blackwater Target Systems is GSD Manufacturing, and Blackwater Lodge and Training Center is the U.S. Training Center. POPSSteampunk Challenge (b3ta) "This week's challenge is to celebrate Steampunk and the age of Victorian sci-fi, where airships and steam power exist alongside 19th century versions of more modern developments." I know, so it wasn't my last Steampunk clip - but these were too funny to ignore

POPSSolar blimp to fly from NYC to Paris, Rests on Land or Water The folks at Turtle Airships don’t like calling their aircraft a ‘blimp’: “It is a rigid shelled, amphibious, solar powered, all weather, FAST aircraft that is lifted by helium, but it is not a blimp.” Even so, it's a blimp. Nasty memories of the Hindenburg aside, it may not be long before passengers are flying comfortably from New York to Paris– and beyond– aboard Turtle Airships.

POPSDoes War Influence Ingenuity? We're told that "necessity is the mother of invention," but history doesn't really bear that out. The true mother of invention is our powerful driving internal need to invent. We invent because we want to invent. It's freedom that's the real mother of invention.

POPSUFO's??? In 2005, a large document allegedly written in the late 1970s came to light that claimed that six aliens were recovered from the Roswell crash. An alien called EBE 1 was said to have survived and organized a team of specially trained humans to visit his home planet Serpo. The story goes that 12 humans stayed there from 1965 to 1978, two remained and the others either died on the planet or when they returned to Earth. The tale represents the flavor of contemporary UFO rumor. Anything is possible -- wish they would abduct Bush,Cheny,& Congress & take them to their planet. lol

POPSNew Technology For Manufacturing Flexible Solar Cells It also provides for lightweight and flexible solar cell panels that could find interest in the space, military and recreational markets. For standard applications, the solar cells can also be encapsulated into a more traditional rigid structure. By being flexible, the solar cells can conform to different surfaces, Eser said, adding this is “particularly important for roofing applications for building integration, and for airships and balloons.” The solar cell sheets are created by depositing copper-indium-gallium-diselinide, which the IEC scientists call CIGS, on a 10-inch wide polymer web, which is then processed into the flexible solar cells. CIGS solar cells are currently the only thin-film technology that has achieved efficiencies comparable to silicon solar cells, presently the standard of the industry.
