Balance of Terror: From Detroit City to Ghazi Khan
katsteevns
by katsteevns  12-29-2009    6
Perhaps most significantly, the non-igniting of the homemade device has "rejuvenated debate ... over the proper balance between security and privacy," the New York Times informs us -- while quoting several "experts" who let us know just which way this "balance" is now going to tilt. These "experts" include Bush retreads like ex-Homeland Security commissar Michael Chertoff, who now dabbles profitably in the "risk management and security consulting" industry -- yet another of our great and good for whom every act of terror (real or imagined, successful or unsuccessful) means boffo box office

SEIU Needs Socialized Medicine To Stoke Its Underfunded Pensions

and union employees at the expense of the rank-and-file. To regain some semblance of fiscal stability, the SEIU has wagered heavily on forcing other employees to help fund its drying pension reserves. That was the motivation behind the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) ("Card Check"), a major Democrat initiative for 2009, and one on which the SEIU spent tens of millions of its members' money. Since Card Check is in serious trouble with lawmakers, state-run health care would be a suitable alternative. • The public option could force hospital and other health care workers into underfunded pensions, putting their retirements at risk • The average union pension has resources to cover only 62% of what is owed to participants • Less than one in every 160 union-represented workers is covered by a union pension with required assets • The PBGC already supports upwards of 30,000 pension plans • Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBGC), the governmental pension insurer,

Limbaugh Bad, Mao Good by Mark Steyn

and famously nondivisive figures like the Rev. Al Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson expressed the hope that, with Mr. Divisive out of the picture, the NFL could now "unify." The second quotation " hailing Mao " was uttered back in June to an audience of high school students by Anita Dunn, the White House communications director. I know she uttered it because I watched the words issuing from her mouth on "The Glenn Beck Show" on Fox News. But don't worry. Nobody else played it. So if I understand correctly: Rush Limbaugh is so "divisive" that to get him fired Leftie agitators have to invent racist sound bites to put in his mouth. But the White House communications director is so undivisive that she can be invited along to recommend Chairman Mao as a role model for America's young. From my unscientific survey, U.S. school students are all but entirely unaware of Mao Tse Tung, and the few that aren't know him mainly as a T-shirt graphic or "agrarian reformer."

Racist Undertones Of The 'Socialist' Epithet
ljsdesign
by ljsdesign  10-18-2009    3
More From The Article: Take another black leader, another society fraught by racial division. In 1956, Nelson Mandela and 155 other antiapartheid activists were arrested by the South African government under the infamous Suppression of Communism Act of 1950, a law that was used gratuitously to incarcerate anyone who was critical of the government. The treason trial that followed resulted in a 1961 acquittal for all those involved, the government unable to prove any "socialist" intentions. But the political equation of black activists as "communists" would continue up through the 1980s. The Reagan administration egregiously soft-pedaled the issue of apartheid on the basis of the South African government's purported anticommunist stance. Indeed, the South African government itself viewed its policies not as racist, but as anticommunist. Only popular pressure through a global antiapartheid movement persuaded the US to isolate South Africa. It takes the cry of "socialism!" liter

Breaking: ACORN Bombshell #4 Due From BigGovernment Tomorrow
merrie
by merrie  9-14-2009    1
ACORN and Obama at the Heart of the Mortgage Meltdown Starting in the nineties, a young attorney named Barack Obama began working with ACORN to promote mortgages for those who could not afford them. At the time, ACORN consisted of community agitators, who falsely accused banks of "redlining" (failing to offer mortgages to the urban poor). These groups would pack bank lobbies and harass customers in order to intimidate the institutions and force the government to lower underwriting standards. A former community agitator and ACORN attorney named Barack Obama sued Citibank in 1994, just one of hundreds of nuisance lawsuits filed by ACORN and its affiliates to loosen mortgage underwriting standards. The inevitable result is still unfolding. But this much is clear: ACORN, its attorneys and its sycophants in Congress unleashed a catastrophic meltdown on America. It used government power to to force financial institutions to underwrite completely unqualified applicants . .

Health Care Trading Cards: Collect 'Em All!
merrie
by merrie  8-18-2009    1
Wondering who gets what out of the Democrat Party's push for single-payer, socialized medicine? Keep tabs on all the cash changing hands with this exclusive collection of Health Care Trading Cards™! "What Obama didn’t say is that AARP receives millions in federal funds, and hopes to get even more by becoming a vendor under his plan. In January 2007, NLPC published Special Report documenting taxpayer support for AARP. The study found that federal funding accounted for $83 million, or about 10 percent, of AARP’s then-annual revenue of $878 million." Unaccountable politicians -- who have come out and said they don't give a crap what their constituents think -- will amass more power, further breakdown the firewalls in the Constitution and then walk away. And where will Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid be in ten years, when the rest of us are struggling with a massive, out-of-control, federalized medical system that doesn't give a damn . . .

From Alinsky to Axelrod: Pro-ObamaCare Protesters Were Bused In for NH Town Hall
merrie
by merrie  8-13-2009    1
One of Obama's early mentors in the Alinsky method was Mike Kruglik, who had this to say to an Ryan Lizza of The New Republic, about Obama: "He was a natural, the undisputed master of agitation, who could engage a room full of recruiting targets in a rapid-fire Socratic dialogue, nudging them to admit that they were not living up to their own standards. As with the panhandler, he could be aggressive and confrontational. With probing, sometimes personal questions, he would pinpoint the source of pain in their lives, tearing down their egos just enough before dangling a carrot of hope that they could make things better." The agitator's job, according to Alinsky, is first to bring folks to the "realization" that they are indeed miserable, that their misery is the fault of unresponsive governments or greedy corporations, then help them to bond together to demand what they deserve...

Rush To The President: "DEBATE ME"
merrie
by merrie  3-5-2009    3
If Rush really is the drug-addled gasbag the left makes him out to be, then the Obamassiah with his silver tongue and glistening bronze pecs should have no problem besting him in a debate. Right, Obama culties? Your Obamassiah should have nothing to fear from Rush, should he? I mean, surely Obama would welcome the opportunity to clean the clock of his most influential heretic? Right? These Chicago thugs were counting on Rush folding faster than Superman on laundry day… like their Republican opponents. The last thing they expected was for Rush to challenge him right back. "But I have an idea. If these guys are so impressed with themselves, and if they are so sure of their correctness, why doesn't President Obama come on my show? We will do a one-on-one debate of ideas and policies. Now, his people in this Politico story, it's on the record." http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_030409/content/01125106.guest.html

Marinetti futurists to Childish&Thompson stuckists
chara
by chara  2-20-2009
Futurism was an art movement that originated in Italy in the early 20th century. It was largely an Italian phenomenon, though there were parallel movements in Russia, England and elsewhere. The Italian writer Filippo Tommaso Marinetti was its founder and most influential personality. The Stuckists have grown to an international movement and as of November 2008 numbered 183 (affiliated but independent) groups in 44 countries. In October 2000, Regan Tamanui founded the Melbourne Stuckists, the first one outside the UK. On 27.10.2000, he staged the Real Turner Prize Show at the Dead End Gallery in his home, concurrent with three shows with the same title in England (London, Falmouth and Dartington), and one in Germany, in protest against the Tate Gallery's Turner Prize. In 2000, Susan Constance founded the first US group The Pittsburgh Stuckists: "The new word in art is Stuckism. A Stuckist paints their life, mind and soul with no pretensions and no excuses."[

La Times holding back video of Barack

So why is the Times sitting on the videotape of the Khalidi festivities? Given Obama's (preposterous) claims that he didn’t know Ayers that well and was unfamiliar with Ayers’s views, why didn't the Times report that Ayers and Dohrn were at the bash? Was it not worth mentioning the remarkable coincidence that both Obama and Ayers — the “education reform” allies who barely know each other … except to the extent they together doled out tens of millions of dollars to Leftist agitators, attacked the criminal justice system, and raved about each others books — just happen to be intimate friends of the same anti-American Israel-basher? (Despite having watched the videotape, Wallsten told Gateway Pundit he “did not know” whether Ayers was there.)

Code Pink Tries To Arrest & Handcuff Karl Rove At Mortgage Meeting
merrie
by merrie  10-23-2008    4
In total, five Code Pink members were removed from the hall during Rove’s appearance. The organization says none of the five women were charged. Four questions come to mind. What does Code Pink have to do with the crisis of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Freddie and Fannie were run by hardcore Democrats. What does Karl Rove have to do with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Mr. Bush called for reform of the agencies until he was blue in the face. And, lastly, why were these professional agitators let back into this meeting a day after its leader had been forcibly removed? And why were no charges brought against Code Pink? Apparently, the so-called mortgage crisis isn’t so serious at all, if even the Mortgage Bankers aren’t willing to take it seriously. (Thanks to BillK for the heads up.)

Surviving the Post May-Day Blues

Your planned pseudo-Russian Revolution will have to wait. -Prepare yourself for the nasty looks and harsh words of working relatives and friends that you only see around your birthday. Let little jabs and sarcastic comments about your Communist proclivities go. Arguing or getting upset and making drunken or careless remarks at family gatherings won't solve anything. -Create a placard budget. Financial woes are a major cause of May Day depression and anxiety, especially since you, like most left-wing agitators, are probably unemployed and depending on the good graces of your family and friends to have a place to sleep and provide you with food. -Wear some clothes with colors other than red or black once in a while. -Drop the holier-than-thou act. Not every person you meet or talk to will immediately agree with your Communist worldview. Your snide pro-collectivist remarks were only "cute" when you were in college sucki

Obama's Minister Committed "Treason" But When My Father Said the Same Thing He Was a Republican Hero
zizzy
by zizzy  4-13-2008    9
My dad's books denouncing America and comparing the USA to Hitler are still best sellers in the "respectable" evangelical community and he's still hailed as a prophet by many Republican leaders. When Mike Huckabee was recently asked by Katie Couric to name one book he'd take with him to a desert island, besides the Bible, he named Dad's Whatever Happened to the Human Race? a book where Dad also compared America to Hitler's Germany. We Republican agitators of the mid 1970s to the late 1980s were genuinely anti-American in the same spirit that later Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson (both followers of my father) were anti-American when they said God had removed his blessing from America on 9/11, because America accepted gays. Falwell and Robertson recanted but we never did.

Musharraf's speech defending martial law
enbar
by enbar  11-4-2007
You probably know that Musharraf declared martial law on Nov. 2 against the strongly expressed wishes of U.S. and other Western diplomats. The irony is that he claims (quite plausibly, in my view, but I don't know that much about it) to be doing it in order to prevent Pakistan being overrun by violent Islamist agitators, which would be a disaster of unfathomable proportions for the GWOT and U.S. policy generally (not to mention India and Afghanistan). I'm mystified about what the U.S. really wants Musharraf to do.
