POPSRupert Murdoch say it's time for search giants to pay for content The Journal, which is owned by News Corp., already is the newspaper industry's most successful Internet subscription model, with more than 1 million customers who pay for online access. "When they talk about people linking to them as if they are stealing from them, it's like saying, 'How dare you sell my paper and make a penny along the way?'"

POPSWhat could kill Google? Clipped from an interesting article that illustrates the one vulnerability of Google - that people may some day not need it to find what they're looking for. I myself rarely use Google to find things. Between social media sites, RSS readers, news aggregators and ecommerce sites, it's rare that i need Google to help me find what i'm looking for. Honestly find it surprising that their stats are still so strong...but i suppose it would not shock me if someday we look back on search and think of it as being so web 1.0. That said, even if Google Search ultimately slows down, they are well positioned to be the advertising partner for whoever/whatever takes their place.

POPSNine things the internet has ruined forever The only thing I would disagree a bit with is the part about journalists. The journalist was already dying with big media corporations deciding what is news and what is not. They replaced real journalists by yes men and pretty mannequins who claimed to be reporters but are nothing more than glorified prompt readers. Bloggers and aggregators came out strong because there was a need for honesty and a need to express dissenting opinion within the populace. Clipmarks is successful because it combines both approaches.

POPSfred wilson on the value of voice Fred's distinction between algorithms and human aggregation is exactly what has motivated me over the years to create Clipmarks.com and now Amplify.com. Different people can see the same thing in so many different ways depending on their perspective. Algorithms don't have perspective, they don't have experience and they don't have heart. So as amazed as i am by what algorithms can do, i'll always be more amazed and interested in what people can do.

POPSFarewell paper news and newspapers. Digital news sources - aggregators - are replacing now our old habit to open newspaper with morning cap of coffee. When you can see video clips on podcasts and youtube and read about something from numerous sources directly on your mobile phones - you will leave newspapers, magazines and even books in elusive past. Now the problem only are a quality of those sources and their tailoring to the needs of each of us. One of possible solution could be comprehensive chart in the end of article and sizable incentives for concerned readers.

POPSpopurls "With the intention to get a quick glance on what’s happening on the web while keeping the common newsreader clean from short-term headlines, popurls was launched in march 2006 by Thomas Marban who is often mentioned for creating the original trend of “single page aggregators”. Rather than a tool, popurls is considered as a gate to an editorial selection of the most popular sites on the internet, presented in a usable way. After features on thousands of blogs and newspapers like the NY times, Yahoo! named it best of the web to finally enter the 30 most popular sites of all time on del.icio.us. Today, popurls is frequented more than 75.000 times each day."
