POPSPZ Myers vs Crackers The absurdity continues. After Myers threatened to desecrate a communal cracker the hit squad of the Catholic Church has been gearing up. Slide over to the main article for a humorous look at religious "logic". It truly is hilarious.

POPSGuns in Class: Professor fired "predictable has been outrage from the right. Last month two leaders of extremist Jewish settlers in Hebron, Baruch Marzel and Itimar Ben Gvir, announced that they had enrolled on Hassan's course. "I would love for him to ask me about my army service," said Marzel. "I can only assure you that he will be the one walking out of the classroom." The army added its voice too, with senior officers, including the Chief of Staff, Ashkenazi, putting pressure on Sapir College to publicly rebuke the film-maker and punish him. A letter from the head of army personnel, General Elazar Stern, accused the college of failing to act with "proper determination" and urged that Hassan face "sharp, public, official condemnation." Stern added that Hassan must be made to apologize or be sacked, otherwise the army would end its funding of places for hundreds of soldiers who attend courses at Sapir." ...AlterNet

POPSIslamo-Fascism Denial --<< "The witch-hunt involves fringe groups such as the Revolutionary Communist Party, Campus Progress --a campus project funded by the Center for American Progress,an operation created by George Soros and Hillary Clinton, David Horowitz is described as a "racist" -- the standard label the Left attaches to anyone with whom it disagrees. In any case, none of this has anything to do with Islamo-Fascism -- or contradicting any of the evidence exposing the evil that it creates. Islamofascists are Muslims (hence the word 'Islam') who seek to rule the world under a totalitarian, oppressive regime (hence the word 'fascists'.) Such diverse people and groups like Saddam Hussein (a secularist), Al Qaeda, Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Republic of Iran are labeled Islamofascists…" >>--

POPSExposing Lack of Academic Freedom on Campus I can't speak for the film, but I agree with the premise. Also from the article: "While the documentary focuses on individuals who successfully pushed back against harassment and censorship, it is important to note that there are many students and professors who have had their academic careers damaged and even ruined, Maloney told the audience after the screening."

POPSMonstrous Idiocy Really, this is not all that surprising. Most of our college professors, including this bird, are all hard core liberals. Of course he (and most of our professors) is ill-equipped for his post. This whole incident broadly demonstrates that liberalism is devoid of moral compass.

POPSCU Students Cry Foul-Not EnoughTime The single comment by ANONYMOUS says it pretty well: < When you boil this all down, I guess it is really all about you. Your need of preparation, your need to schedule your rallies. When the tanks roared through Tenamen Square, how many Chinese students said "Please wait, we have not had time to prepare for the tanks. Stop the tanks we have to make signs for our rally". Uprisings all around the world will have a new battle cry. "To the barricades, but first let me finish my Frapuccino with 2 Splendas. I guess things have come a long way since the Strawberry Statement. >

POPSNeo Cons Warp the Meaning of Academic Freedom I was harassed by a neo-con student when I was a professor. She kept changing the subject from actual class material. The first day she talked about prayer in school (not a topic covered in this course), when I was trying to just go over the syllabus. Most frustrating, she had zero critical thinking skills, dominated the class, and angered the other students.

POPSChristian college denies tenure for objectivist historian In some respects, Mr. Lewis is an unlikely poster child for academic freedom. In his 2006 essay on Iran, he urged the U.S. military in war zones to threaten Muslim intellectuals with "immediate personal destruction" if they do not renounce political Islamism. And he often writes and speaks on behalf of the Ayn Rand Institute, whose leaders are famously insistent on enforcing fidelity to Rand's beliefs, as they see them. "We have to always make a judgment about things we put out, or things put out by people associated with us," says Onkar Ghate, dean of the Objectivist Academic Center, which is affiliated with the institute. "Are they going to be teaching, talking about, advocating Ayn Rand's ideas, or are they doing something else?"

POPSDePaul denies tenure to Israel critic Shameful. It looks very much like Finkelstein's views played a large role in his denial of tenure, since university officials cited his " tone " as justification to deny Finkelstein tenure. BTW, a committee of faculty from DePaul's political science department looked at Dershowitz's charges and found them to be without merit .

POPSCreationism Whines Up Once again we are shown that even what would appear to be intelligent people are being taken in by the myth of religion and the case for special creation. Bravo to Iowa State for taking a stand against regressive education and for fostering science as science of the 21st Century. Of course this has nothing to do with academic freedom as Dr. Gonzalez states. Shame on him for his tired and discredited attempt to force a religious view upon impressionable kids.
