Intricate Rainforest Sculptures of Olinda
cakebelly
by cakebelly  8-25-2009    4
more: Ricketts gained his deep understanding of Aboriginal culture during frequent trips to Central Australia , where he lived with the Pitjantjatjara and Arrernte people from 1949 -1960. They soon adopted him as one of their own and willingly posed for the sculptures that would become their legacy. William Ricketts died in 1993 at the ripe old age of 94 but he will always be remembered as his figure, too, is dotted around the tranquil fern gully, forever connected to both the family and the land he so loved.

Garrumul is mentioned in a nearby clip, and I thought some of his music should be clipped. Blind since birth, guitar upside down ( no left handed guitars where he grew up), beautiful voice and great music.

Aborigine skulls to be taken home
tabsey
by tabsey  7-7-2008    1
Strange, this lack of respect for human remains. Guess it shows the attitudes of the time. Also shows us that we have improved in some ways. (Though tell that to kid who has just found a half rotten sheeps skull!)

Dr Suave

Seems hard for someone's liver to be cleaved in two by accident. Sounds a lot like it was Police brutality to me - and it warms my heart that the islanders cared enough to burn down an entire 15 buildings to get justice on this one.
