POPSLt. Colonel Allen B West: Bus Ads No Different Than Hamas Rockets
“Dad, I did not know that Jesus was a muslim”. I asked her what brought the issue up and she directed my attention to an advertisement on the side of a Broward County transit bus. The advertisement read, “Islam: The way of life for Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad”, utterly disturbing. It is disturbing because it is historically, and therefore, factually incorrect, but most of all the offensive nature caused me the greatest concern. One has to ask, who gave the permission for such an advertisement to be allowed on public transportation, and at Christmas? Who provided the funding which purchased the advertisement? This advertisement is no different from the Hamas rockets that fall upon southern Israel, just that it is a non-kinetic, “stealth” jihad attack. It is disinformation being used to undermine the national character we have as a Judeo-Christian faith based Nation. And yes, we are a Judeo-Christian faith based Nation . . . .

POPS Red Tide~The Chinese Navy Sets Sail For Somalia However, the naval deployment must also be seen in light of China's steady expansion of maritime interests in Asia, including the so-called "string of pearls": a network of bases, ports, and other facilities stretching from the East China Sea all the way to the Arabian Sea. Whether it be the Gwadar naval base in Pakistan or the Woody Island Airfield in the South China Sea's Paracels Islands, the Chinese are gaining access to strategically important facilities that sit astride the world's major trade routes. In addition to this forward presence, the PLA Navy has committed itself to developing its naval capabilities as a vital component of China's "comprehensive national power." This includes the intention to build at least one, but maybe as many as five, aircraft carrier groups. All this means that the United States must now actively incorporate Chinese capabilities into its strategic planning.

POPSTommyT & PowWow ~ Unlikely Playmates He and his two brothers were born Oct. 28 at Mast Farm in Clermont County, the zoo’s breeding facility. The parents are Purdy, a female from the Columbus Zoo, and Wild Boy, who lives at the Cincinnati Zoo. Tommy T. – who will join the Cincinnati Zoo’s Cat Ambassador Program – was named for Tom Tenhundfeld, the main keeper at Mast Farm. The other two as-yet-unnamed cubs went to their permanent home at the Columbus Zoo today. He’ll also learn how to chase a lure so he can make his debut next summer at the zoo’s Cheetah Encounter, an exhibit that allows visitors to watch cheetahs run at full speed. Cheetahs are the fastest land animals, capable of running 70 mph for short bursts. A blog has been set up at CheetahDays.com so the public can track the cub’s progress. It will “welcome visitors into the daily life of this young cat,” said Cathryn Hilker, founder of the zoo’s Cat Ambassador Program.

POPSLRA rebels accused of atrocities in DR Congo and Sudan “Their attacks are further justification of this joint action against the LRA: they were never for peace,” Magezi commented. “He is just a monster, a beast and terrorist who has no value for human life.” Magezi lamented that the rebels continued to use the same horrendous tactics employed during the failed peace talks, mediated by the South Sudan government.

POPSA letter from Zimbabwe I urge all readers to spend a few minutes and read this letter in full. Whilst I have no sympathy with the maniac Mugabe or those liberal journalist who for three decades kept eulogising over Saint Robert, I have compassion for the people who struggle to maintain some modicum of decency in an increasingly savage environment. For the wonderful Christmases I remember in beautiful Rhodesia, I cannot empty myself of the bitterness I feel against those who will not understand the angst of Ian Smith and his prophesies of doom which now rest upon us.

POPS"Happy Holidays" = Mortgage Meltdown
I read this article several times, and still can't figure out the writer's logic. He does, of course, raise the old canard about not being able to have morality without religion (or a particular religion) but how he gets across this big non sequitur is beyond me. Also from the source: "Responsibility and restraint are moral sentiments. Remorse is a product of conscience. None of these grow on trees. Each must be learned, taught, passed down. And so we come back to the disappearance of Merry Christmas...Northerners and atheists who vilify Southern evangelicals are throwing out nurturers of useful virtue with the bathwater of obnoxious political opinions. The point for a healthy society of commerce and politics is not that religion saves, but that it keeps most of the players inside the chalk lines. We are erasing the chalk lines." He seems to be saying that religion doesn't save but without it we are doomed. By citing Christmas, he is narrowing it down to one religion.

POPSBasra's "Station of Death" Destroyed by Brits & Iraqis If only this will end the torture, not just the site of torture. "Many of the prisoners were found crowded into a small cell, living in "appalling conditions", the army said. Some had "classic torture injuries", according to Major Burbridge, such as crushed hands and feet, cigarette and electrical wounds and gunshot wounds in the knees."
