POPSUsing professionals to help you improve your corporate image needn't be expensive. A friend of a friend... how good it is to have a network! I am slowly building up one for my photography 'sideline' selling framed photos, and just today have made an excellent link with new Florist setting up shop just 20 metres from my home. They are happy to display my photos, don't want any commission, but are keen to have me prepare a new brochure for thie portfolio and website!!! Well, how much should I charge, I ask!!! I have suggested they give me an idea of their budget ;-)

POPSYoung girl burnt at the stake for 'sorcery' continues: The Post Courier newspaper editorial condemned the killing, saying Papua New Guinea's hysteria over sorcery was creating a climate similar to the 17th century witch trials in America. 'If it is alleged she was a sorcerer, this is yet one more example of hysteria and superstition running rampant in parts of our country,' said the editorial. 'Sorcery is a most difficult crime to prove. 'In the witchery trials of America, hundreds of years ago, hysteria took charge and terrible injustices were done. 'People were burned at the stake. We are doing the same thing now,' 'How many of our young are afraid to go home because of these sorcery beliefs and vengeance practices? 'Those who say she got primitive justice should pause to think, it could be you next on that truckload of burning tyres.'

POPSBoy and girl, six and seven, try to elope to Africa continues: Police said the three had hatched their plan to elope on New Year's Eve as their families were celebrating together. Mika had won over the girls with his account of a holiday in "warm" Italy. Temperatures in Germany have been as low as -10C since Christmas. Two policewomen persuaded the couple they could realise their plans "a bit later" and they enjoyed a tour of Hanover police station before being taken home by their parents.

POPS5 Important Life Lessons From Barack Obama All around the world, headlines carried Barack Obama’s historic win when he was declared the 44th president of the United States of America. For a lot of people, Obama’s victory didn’t only signify his own. As the first African-American leader of a country with a harsh history of racial apartheid, his win ushered in a new era for American society.

POPSRichardson Withdraws as Commerce Nom This is pretty disappointing news. I thought Richardson was great and I would actually have liked to see him take State, instead of Hillary Clinton. Here's hoping this doesn't pan out as a fullblown scandal or crime. That would be a big surprise -- at least, to me.

POPSFrance Does A Variation On 'Fiddler On The Roof' Excuse me if I am not impressed by the French credentials on how to control violence. Hemingway notes the French standard on violence: But my favorite bit from the article was this: "In Nantes, around 10 cars were torched although police in the western city said New Year's Eve had been "pretty calm.'" Burning a mere ten cars in your French town is "pretty calm"? Oy. All in all, I would say that France is being, how do you say in French...oh yes: 'Très chutzpadick'.

POPSChina cracks down on activists continues: However, Beijing has reacted by jailing some of Charter 08's public supporters. At least 70 of the original signatories have been summoned or interrogated by the police. Prominent dissident Liu Xiaobo has been put under house arrest. The writer Wen Kejian has been detained in the resort city of Hangzhou, close to Shanghai. Police have also ransacked the Beijing home of Zhang Zuhua, one of the main authors of the charter, confiscating his passport as well as his computers, books and notebooks.

POPSObama's Silence on Gaza Damaging His Reputation if Obama were to take a tougher (some would say more balanced) line with Israel, for example by demanding a permanent end to its blockade of Gaza, or by opening a path to talks with Hamas, he risks provoking a rightwing backlash in Israel, giving encouragement to Israel's enemies, and losing support at home for little political advantage.

POPSStates discover new source of tax income If this were to be adopted in every state, it could further push us to use mass transit or an alternate non-fossil-fueled means of travel, of course we could then be taxed based on how far from home we’ve traveled. Maybe a ‘distanced traveled’ tax computed at checkout in stores. States hand out tax credits to get us to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles and then grouse about loss of gas-tax income. They champion more fuel efficient vehicles as a means of protecting the environment and cutting back on fossil fuel dependency and when it hits their pocketbook they increase taxes in other areas. While it is no surprise to learn that our savings earned through fuel efficiency is lost in higher gas prices, now we learn that those people who could not afford the high prices of new fuel-efficient cars will pay more anyway with this latest taxing scheme. What we need to do is cut back on the number of politicians and the all of the perks they get.

POPSRealtors protest raise in Fanny Mae lending fees $275,000.00 Condo with 20% or $55,000.00 down payment dead beats will be forced after April 1 2009 to pay a 3.25% fee on the mortgage loan. Good News! Naturally the realtors are opposed to the new rule because it will make it harder for them to sell a house. What a shame! Just think about those who can't afford to live over their heads are now forced to play fair and not force those who honor their financial commitments to pay for them. $275,000 minus $55,000 X 3.25% is $7,150.00 " service charge" = $227,150.00. Those people should be jumping up and down with joy that they can even get a mortgage with a 690 credit score. FHFA keep up the good work.
