POPSIs this Obama's most dangerous screw-up yet?
"To you and me this may not seem like a big deal. But I’m told this is hugely significant and shows just how out of touch the Obama administration is with the intelligence community. I’m told that no other President has issued such blanket statements of public mourning directed toward an attack on the CIA and thereby having the White House itself confirming an attack on our intelligence community. The intelligence community is licking its wounds right now and Obama’s rush to confirm for the world that the community suffered such wounds has the intelligence community simmering tonight and Al Qaeda preparing a PR blitz with what they view as good news. UPDATED: Take the information above and couple it with this. The White House is subtly blaming the intelligence community for the failure to deduce the Delta/Northwest attack." Why? Presidential aides are concerned that Obama will somehow be unfairly accused of dropping the ball on the fight against terrorist in Yemen

POPSCongresswoman Dina Titus urges constituents to print their own money Earlier in the year, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner unveiled a new program designed to combat falling prices, called the No Sales & Low Prices, or NOSLOP, program. The target is for consumer staples to rise at least four or five times wages. So far, the efforts have failed to make prices rise substantially. This failure has been blamed on inadequate money printing measures by the Fed. "The Treasury has a plurality of tools at its disposal to combat price deflation and prevent people from finding bargains. We all know that consumers get upset at low prices, so we started a new program called No Sales & Low Prices . We are asking consumers to report any store that is advertising anything as being on sale, or if they find anything on a store shelf that is marked down," said Treasury Secretary Geithner. It is now a federal felony to lower prices without the approval of President Obama's Consumer Price Czar.

POPS“Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother,” Obama told DeFazio
Personal calls from Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former Vice President Al Gore couldn’t persuade him to vote for the Speaker’s climate change bill. He also opposed the $787 billion stimulus, citing concerns that only 7 percent was devoted to infrastructure spending. DeFazio was one of only two Democrats to vote against those measures and the $700 billion bank bailout. (The other was Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) a Blue Dog conservative.) Yet he’s also a pro-gun Democrat who has a B rating from the National Rifle Association. “I would have less of a voice and I would have less respect if I voted for things I didn’t believe in because of pressure from the leadership,” DeFazio told The Hill in an interview. Obama himself has taken notice. “Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother,” Obama told DeFazio during a closed-door meeting of the House Democratic Caucus, according to members afterward. But poking a stick at those in power is what DeFazio does.

POPSArmed Services Committee Members Haven't Read General McChrystal's Report “I have not read it,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who is wary of funding another troop increase. Brown would not commit to reading the report before making a decision on supplemental war funding and said he has talked to McChrystal in person. “I’m not going to commit to reading one thing or another.” Leadership aides point out that most of the document had already been leaked to the Washington Post, which posted a redacted version on the Internet. But the classified report includes six additional pages, plus material that was redacted from the leaked version, including the 500,000 troop figure initially reported by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “I can’t remember whether I read the classified or the declassified report. I can’t remember,” said Ike Skelton, D-Mo., Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, when I asked him about it last month.

POPSMental stress I cannot agree with some blogs about the causes of so much stress for soldiers, but I wholehearted concur that any compensation is derisory. Whenever I am almost convinced, some former pongo comes on the TV and tells the world how hard he had it in the Falklands when he never stepped ashore except on a stretcher. What about the views of the other ten thousand or so who walked ashore despite their injuries yet remain silent? And they actually did fight for the islands. Not that that is my gripe. When I listened to a CSM from 45 Commando tell an audience that the training today is as hard as it ever was I cringed. Whoever allowed the training syllabus to be changed to reflect that of the army ought to be guillotined alongside most Ministers of Defence. So much of the stress factor can be eliminated in training, but Health and Safety has put a kybosh on all that.

POPSGeithner Under Fire From House Democrats and Republicans
policies are too closely geared to Wall Street. "Quite frankly, all the gambling on Wall Street is doing nothing to put people back to work in America and rebuild our economy," he said. The tension comes amid a growing unease from Democrats as they approach the 2010 midterm elections with the unemployment rate at 10.2%. Several Capitol Hill aides said support for Mr. Geithner has frayed, but noted he makes an easy target for critics because he is considered the face of White House economic policy. Overshadowing third-quarter economic growth of 3.5% are fears about the weak state of the job and housing markets. Rank-and-file lawmakers have come under increasing pressure at home to address the shaky economy, said several Democratic leadership aides. House Democratic leaders have vowed to take up job-creating legislation in December. Mr. Geithner has played a lead role in the White House's response to the economic crisis and tried to steer a middle ground .....

POPSWH: No Afghan decision before Thanksgiving Absolutely amazing. Why doesn't he just say what he really plans to do instead of dragging this out, waiting for a more opportune time? He's going to undermine our military troops there and send the morale of the rest completely down the drain. Agree with the Afghan war or not...being so "dithering" is inexcusable and makes the efforts of our soldiers there worthless. My Mom had ABC news on last night (it was an accident) and I heard the news caster talk about the poll numbers showing that support for the war against the Taleban in Afghanistan were dropping. Well, YES!!! Because many of us who do support the work being done there are no longer wanting our family members there without the support of this President!!! By failing to give them what they need, requested by their General, the pseudo-CIC is responsible for those who are being killed and maimed right now.

POPSHeading to Oslo in Weeks, Facing Tough Days on the Diplomatic Front for a vote on the United Nations Security Council. Earlier on his trip, in Singapore, the Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Loekke Rasmussen, the U.N.-sponsored climate conference's chairman, formally announced that he did not think there would be an agreement coming out of Copenhagen, and more negotiations will be necessary. Then, after meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in a side meeting in Singapore, President Obama acknowledged that US-Russian negotiators would almost certainly not make the deadline for a new nuclear disarmament agreement to take the place of the START treaty that expires on December 5. More frustrations followed . On Monday, Chinese government officials refused to broadcast live President Obama's Shanghai town hall meeting on state-run television. POPSSo, how low will this President go?
These bows are not according to protocol, they are excessive and unbecoming to our nation's leader. When he engages in such inappropriate behavior, he embarasses himself and his nation. However, don’t take my word for it, listen to the analysis of diplomatic etiquette expert Lyudmila Bloch: “When President Obama recently greeted Japanese Emperor Akihito with a deep bow (at almost 90 degrees), and a handshake at the same time, those gestures were over the top and spoke loudly of diplomatic inexperience and poor briefing by his aides.” “Two individuals of equal rank greet each other in the same way. Did you see the Emperor bowing from his waist down and stretching to reach Obama’s hand? No. The keywords are appropriate and subtle. The bow must demonstrate a delicate balance between respect, proper protocol, and appreciation for the Japanese tradition concerning age and rank.” “Submissive, excessive, emotional, or dramatic gestures like President Obama’s may be interpreted as naïve,

POPSThe Audacity of Failure: The 4-year presidency of Barack Hoover Obama
This clip from Politico tells us more about the people surrounding Obama, than it tells us about Obama himself. Clearly, his chief lieutenants are just as committed to savaging Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as their GOP counterparts. This is obvious by the way they've handled the fiscal stimulus. Where are the jobs programs, the boost to Green Technology, the massive infrastructure rebuild? Nowhere. Because the industry-reps and bank lobbyists who fill out the Obama roster adhere to the same pro-business credo as the members of Team Bush, that is, that all public assets and resources should be strip-mined from their rightful owners and transferred to the robber barons at the top of the economic food-chain. There's no way that Geithner, Summers and the rest of the Wall Street insiders would ever dream of rebuilding the public safety net they've been trying to destroy for the last decade or more. That's not in their interests at all. The administration's announce

POPSStay Off of Fox News: Obama Administration Warns Democrat Strategist
White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said that she had checked with colleagues who "deal with TV issues" and that they had not told people to avoid Fox. On the contrary, they had urged people to appear on the network, Dunn wrote in an e-mail. But Patrick Caddell, a Fox News contributor and former pollster for President Carter, said he had spoken to Democratic consultants who said they were told by the White House to avoid appearances on Fox. He declined to give their names. Caddell said he had not gotten that message himself from the White House. He added: "I have heard that they've done that to others in not too subtle ways. I find it appalling. When the White House gets in the business of suppressing dissent and comment, particularly from its own party, it hurts itself." Some observers say White House officials might be urging consultants to spurn Fox to isolate the network and make it appear more partisan. Los Angeles Times

POPSDemocratic Donors Rewarded With White House Perks
Presidential aides said there has been no systematic effort to use the White House complex to aid fundraising, though they acknowledge the DNC has paid for some events at the presidential mansion. Many guests at the White House not only had fundraising connections, but also have personal friendships with the president, Mr. Obama's aides said. "Contributing does not guarantee a ticket to the White House, nor does it prohibit the contributor from visiting," said Dan Pfeiffer, deputy White House communications director. • See White House response to story: White House touts ethics in rewards for fundraisers Presidential aides said there has been no systematic effort to use the White House complex to aid fundraising, though they acknowledge the DNC has paid for some events at the presidential mansion. POPSAlternate Iraq War Universe … Obama Won!
Never mind that the surge was initiated by President George Bush, and the current withdrawal was negotiated by the Bush administration with a sovereign, elected Iraqi government which his actions allowed to come into being, in place of the prior despot he had deposed, while Democrats, including Obama, were howling for abandonment. Obama deserves some credit, of course. For staying Bush’s course and throwing his own boneheaded pandering demands for a precipitous pullout under the bus. OK, I thought Friedman had got about as weird as he could. Silly me. This next step is particularly important, which is why we cannot let Afghanistan distract U.S. diplomats from Iraq. Remember: Transform Iraq and it will impact the whole Arab-Muslim world. Change Afghanistan and you just change Afghanistan. Fascinating. The big clamor for the last few years of course has been that Iraq was distracting us from Afghanistan, and now every jackanape out there, to include Friedman . . .

POPSSecret Obamacare Negotiations Behind Closed Doors Democracy does not begin and end on Election Day for the American people. Whether you are for or against Obamacare, we the people deserve an opportunity to read, digest and understand the most important health care legislation to be debated in the United States Senate in our lifetime. The American people relied upon the promise of the Obama Administration and the leadership in Congress to be open and transparent, therefore it is time to stop the closed door negotiations and allow the American people to participate in the democratic process.
