boozich
by boozich  5-18-2008
i have a confession....we have a little get together each year and watch this... Italy has not participated in the contest since 1997 because of the lack of interest from RAI and from the Italians themselves...picture 1958 - Domenico Modugno and Nel blu, dipinto di blu (Volare) - in the US, where it has become commonly known as Volare, and got two Grammy Awards. It is one of few Eurovision songs that has reached #1 at the US singles charts. At the 50th anniversary show "Congratulations" in 2005, it was elected the 2nd best Eurovision entry ever.

by merrie  3-14-2008    2
St. Patrick's Day Parade Enjoy green bagels, green water fountains, a green Empire State Building and, of course, green beer, all in honor of the patron saint of Ireland at the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Fifth Avenue in New York City Monday . The first St. Patrick's Day Parade in NYC took place 247 years ago, 14 years before the Declaration of Independence. This parade does not allow floats or cars, just marchers. The parade starts at 44th Street at 11 a.m. and marches up Fifth Avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral at 50th Street. It proceeds past the American Irish Historical Society and the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 83rd Street to 86th Street, where the parade finishes around 5 p.m. Visit www.saintpatricksdayparade.com/NYC for more information. Enjoy St. Patrick's Day! Now drink like Ted Kennedy

Only Pol Pot has a worse Human Rights Record?!
righthand
by righthand  8-20-2007    3
No country with such a record, whether first or 50th worst in the world, can credibly protest a boycott. Apartheid South Africa provides another useful standard. How does Israel's behavior toward Palestinians compare to former South Africa's treatment of blacks? It is similar or worse, say a number of South Africans, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, U.N. special rapporteur in the occupied territories John Dugard, and African National Congress member and government minister Ronnie Kasrils. The latter observed recently that apartheid South Africa never used fighter jets to attack ANC activists, and judged Israel's violent control of Palestinians as "10 times worse." Dual laws for Jewish settlers and Palestinians, segregated roads and housing, and restrictions on Palestinians' freedom of movement strongly recall apartheid South Africa. If boycotting apartheid South Africa was appropriate, it is equally fair to boycott Israel on a similar record. Israel has been singled out, but n

Israel's Primal Myth: A Barrier to Peace
zizzy
by zizzy  7-21-2007    2
The 1948 ethnic cleansing or Nakba (Catastrophe) as the Palestinians call this tragedy, was the culmination of a plan that began in the late 19th century, way before the Holocaust. The only problem with this article is that it leaves out a very important Israeli historian Ian Pappe, the author the The Etnic Cleansing of Palestine. This s a very important book that documents the entire planning process using as source material interviews of those who carried out the plans and David Ben Guirion's diary. Golda Meir was involved as well. What the Zionists wanted was pure Jewish state, to build an economy that did not require Palestinian labor. Ilan Pappe official websitehttp://www.ilanpappe.org/ 50th aniversary of The Nakba http://www.alnakba.org/ (the chronology is an eye opener)

PIPE ORGAN LAW TOOT VS. CON ED
cpltaiji
by cpltaiji  6-14-2007
I can believe that! A great many of those pipes are hand carved out of exotic woods and warp easily. You don't just call your local organ tuner and have him order parts from the factory! Depending on the extent of the damage, a million sounds like a pretty good deal!
