POPSPelosi Erases Gingrich's Long-Standing Fairness Rules House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America. POPSLetter from Gaza on life and death of a father The saddest aspect of all this insanity is that the same letter can and has probably been written by a son or daughter of an Israeli killed by a rocket fired from Gaza. If only the leaders of both sides had the wisdom, the writer shares about violence begetting more violence. Peace now!

POPSLess (Information) Is More When Benjamin Franklin's nephew Joseph Priestley found himself stumped by a complex life decision, he wrote his sage uncle for advice. In his 1772 letter of reply, Franklin described his own method for reasoning out complex problems, which he called "moral algebra." Divide a sheet of paper in half, he counseled his nephew, and make an exhaustive list of pros and cons. Then, over a couple days, weigh the pros and cons, and when a pro and a con seem of equal weight, strike them both out. What is left in the balance is the best answer. Such "balance sheet" calculation is still taught today as the most logical and systematic method for dealing with many of life's complexities. Kids are counseled to choose colleges and careers this way, and managers similarly deliberate the pros and cons in important business decisions; some people are even methodical in matters of the heart. But is moral algebra really the best method for decision making in today's ?

POPSBurris Contacts Reid This is no surprise and really exactly what you'd expect from Team Burris. The only real news here is in the Certificate of Appointment (page 4 of the PDF ), which is signed by Governor Blagojevich, but not by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White. White has refused to sign off on the appointment, which may give Reid some legal leverage when it comes to rejecting Burris.

POPSRussia's Gazprom Says it Will Halt Gas Supply to Ukraine Gazprom accused Ukraine of blackmail on Wednesday, showing reporters a letter from Naftogaz Ukraine that appeared to threaten to confiscate Russian transit gas if there was no deal. Gazprom insists it has a valid transit agreement with Ukraine until the end of 2010. "Such a formulation is absolutely incorrect from both an economic and legal point of view," Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said of Naftogaz's letter in comments broadcast on state TV. Ukraine would face "serious consequences" if it interfered with transit flows, he added. Gazprom said Naftogaz had been trying to hike the amount Russia pays it to transit gas through Ukraine. Gazprom said Ukraine owed it more than $2bn in unpaid bills for 2008, a figure that includes fines for late payment. It said a Russian-Ukrainian intermediary company has received $1.5bn from Ukraine but said the money had not yet reached its own accounts or been paid in full.

The web should stay open for different ways of expression even if some does not fully fall under ones description of tastefulness

POPSLusitania: How Americans Were Tricked into WWI Britain secretly loved this. The words of Churchill here are damning: Winston Churchill, who was first Lord of the Admiralty and has long been suspected of knowing more about the circumstances of the attack than he let on in public , wrote in a confidential letter shortly before the sinking that some German submarine attacks were to be welcomed. He said: 'It is most important to attract neutral shipping to our shores, in the hope especially of embroiling the U.S. with Germany. 'For our part we want the traffic - the more the better and if some of it gets into trouble, better still.' Similar was done by FDR to setup and provoke a Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Then the Gulf of Tonkin for Vietnam, which was a total fabrication...and on it goes. Of course Israel provoked Hamas to fire rockets (killing only 1), breaking the cease fire, then stating they were justified in attacking Gaza, killing hundreds.

POPSAsk A Ninja (White Ninja Suit) IMPRESSION!!!!!! I came up with the idea to do impressions of the stars of youtube. The first one was going to be Ask A Ninja, Now what happened was we shot the video and I would pull down my mask every like 10 seconds and drink the product clearly showing that it wasn't the real ninja. The Ask A Ninja Company sent a letter telling us not to put it up with a product in the video. So now it looks like I just copied him instead of spoofing him. It was really funny when I would pull down the mask. Anyway, I love the Ask A Ninja guy and think he is brilliant. This is the only video I will ever do like this. Enjoy!!!

POPSObama To Keep About 150 Bush Pentagon Appointees The Defense Department is the only agency considering such a request. All other political appointees in other branches had to submit their resignation letters by Friday. “I have received authorization from the president-elect’s transition team to extend a number of Department of Defense political appointees an invitation to voluntarily remain in their current positions until replaced,” Gates wrote in a letter to appointees on Monday. “This option will be available to all willing political appointees with the exception of those who are contacted individually and told otherwise.” About 100 of the 250 appointees have not been asked to stay on during the transition.
