POPSDefinition Of Patriotism: "Happiness When The US Defeats The Enemy" They have lost their supposedly divine endorsement; why would Allah have called them to action, just to see them destroyed by the infidels? The sheer bloodthirstiness of their actions in Iraq have exposed them as drug-driven demons, not righteous jihadists. While Barack Obama and the Democratic party run around shouting to every microphone they can find that “Al-Qaeda is stronger today than it was on 9/11″ have challenged the core assumptions of Al-Qaeda’s motivating philosophy, that Allah is on their side and they cannot fail, and in doing so have crushed the spirit of Al-Qaeda’s followers and assured that recruiting into “Allah’s army” is far more difficult that it would have been if otherwise. Al Qaeda itself is telling a different story. Al-Qaeda leaders admit: 'We are in crisis. There is panic and fear' http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article3346386.ece

POPSFood Stamp Use Rises Sharply We are aproaching a point where 1 out of every 10 Americans will be on food stamps. That will not include the number of poor who, for various reasons, don't recieve food stamps. 1 out of every 10. That's beginning to sound 3rd-world-like.

POPSMEANING OF FOLDING THE FLAG The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic. The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day. The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

POPSHillary's Bitter Victory Is there any relief in sight? When will this thing end? The short answer to this question is no, there isn't. Watching this scene, I was struck suddenly by the genius of the Clinton campaign — and also felt myself beginning to understand why this Obama-Clinton contest may yet prove to be one of those defining cultural clashes that come along once a generation or so, like Bryan-Darrow or Ali-Frazier. what we have in Hillary Clinton: a once-in-a-generation political pugilist who, like her much smoother adversary, is amazingly capable of turning weakness into strength. Pitted against physical beauty and inspirational rhetoric, Hillary made herself the champion of everything stylistically ordinary, superficially unimpressive and ignored. And while her opponent won all the attention and admiration, all the teen-idol gushings of the beautiful people, she went for something deeper — resentment at the lack of those same things.

POPS2300 Year Old Model Airplane Did anyone actually build a large version of this thing? Well, no one could have come this close to the real shape of flight without working on a larger scale. This little wooden model could hardly exist unless someone had worked with large, light models, or even with man-carrying versions. Archaeologists have looked in vain for a prototype. A large model light enough to fly would be too delicate to stand the ravages of 2300 years. The original -- if it ever was -- has long since joined the desert dust. Whatever form this Egyptian airplane might have taken, it has long since returned to the world of dreams and imagination from which it first came.

POPSCompleting the Circle While most engineers function in a masculine, straight line thinking mode - the reality (which corresponds to a feminine energy way of thinking) is that eventually, what goes around comes around. Were the shipbuilders asked to design their product with its end in mind? No. They were only tasked with the first piece of the puzzle, make something that floats and can move stuff from one location to another within reasonable risk tolerances. "Modern" accounting does not require them to include disposal of the product in their calculations! What would product design look like if disposal had to be calculated into the design?

POPSLeftist economic rationale Just couldn't believe this was "fit to print". The rich and middle class buy 2nd and 3rd homes, recreational vehicles, 2nd,3rd and 4th automobiles, vast amounts of consumer electronics, entertainment, untold numbers of goods and services, travel, they donate vasts amounts into their communities and they continue to buy and consume without incurring debt. They also invest in others on a daily basis. Not only that, the rich are not a finite few. You have to shake your head at the abject level of acuity involved in thinking economic issues in America are zero-sum. There are so many problems with this quote and article that it is unfathomable the depth of illogic. Not to mention the petty resentment and hatred that must infect the mind of such a person with this kind of bigoted outlook on fellow Americans who have worked hard and achieved.

POPSThe Great Wall Of China Construction of many of the ancient wonders of the world is mind boggling when you consider that they were made without the use of modern equipment. I would love to include some portion of the wall in some future travel plans.

POPSInfographic delight: Indianapolis Museum visualized Refreshing use of technology in the arts/social arena. The Indianapolis Museum uses an enterprise dashboard to visualize vital stats normally buried in paper. E.g. amount of energy consumed per day visits: online/offline, average duration, member/casual/students, etc. artworks: new acquisitions, on loan, most visited, etc. gardening activity: new blooms, H2O consumption, etc Loved the 3rd grader stat. :)

POPSAustralia ratifies Kyoto There is fear on the economic impact of Kyoto such that: * the cost of energy is driven up in countries with targets. * This in turn drives up the price of manufactured goods. * The higher price of goods means that local manufacturing is reduced * There are then fewer exports and more goods imported from countries that don't have * The economic effects of the trade imbalance reduce consumer demand, so we eventually have to use less energy. ... surely it would be better to get on board the new energy economy than be stuck with the dinosaur industries related to fossil fuels! Living in a CLEAN world is what's important. Needless to say Australia's carbon output is a small fraction of India,China, Indonesia etc. and without 3rd world compliance our efforts are meaningless.
