Secret Mission Rescues Yemen's Jews

and travel to the capital 50 miles to the south. There, they met U.S. State Department officials conducting a clandestine operation to bring some of Yemen's last remaining Jews to America to escape rising anti-Semitic violence in his country. In all, about 60 Yemeni Jews have resettled in the U.S. since July; officials say another 100 could still come. There were an estimated 350 in Yemen before the operation began. Some of the remainder may go to Israel and some will stay behind, most in a government enclave. The secret evacuation of the Yemeni Jews -- considered by historians to be one of the oldest of the Jewish diaspora communities -- is a sign of America's growing concern about this Arabian Peninsula land of 23 million. The operation followed a year of mounting harassment, and was plotted with Jewish relief groups while Washington was signaling alarm about Yemen. In July, Gen. David Petraeus was dispatched to Yemen to encourage President Ali Abdullah Saleh to be

 2. GLENN BECK → THE JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY: Beck interviewed Sam Antonio, a national spokesman for the John Birch Society, on the July 25, 2007, edition of his now-defunct CNN Headline News program. Leading off the interview, Beck said to Antonio: "I have to tell you, when I was growing up, the John Birch Society, I thought they were a bunch of nuts, however, you guys are starting to make more and more sense to me." Beck was discussing with Antonio the Security and Prosperity Partnership, an economic and security initiative of the United States, Canada, and Mexico that the John Birch Society believes is a vehicle "to stealthily merge the three North American nations."

President Obama Had Better Learn That Being Allergic To The Word “Victory” Has Serious Consequences

Since American soldiers are doing the vast majority of the dirty work, their per-capita death rate is still 1-1/2 to two times that of their counterparts in Iraq.) President Obama had better learn that being allergic to the word “victory” has serious consequences " and quickly. __________________________________________ Joseph Curl at the Washington Times recites some of the “distractions” that are apparently keeping Obama from paying proper attention to Afghanistan and carrying out his primary role as Commander in Chief: In the past month, the president has found the time to play golf " four times. He’s had links legend Arnold Palmer and other top golfers over to the White House. He’s shot some hoops with friends and yukked it up with hockey’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Jobless Rate Reaches 9.8 Percent in September
merrie
by merrie  10-2-2009    1
"If they're struggling, they're not consuming. That just takes some of the legs out of recovery." The Labor Department said Friday that the U.S. economy lost a net total of 263,000 jobs last month, from a downwardly revised 201,000 in August. That's worse than Wall Street economists' expectations of 180,000 job losses, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters. The unemployment rate rose from 9.7 percent in August, matching expectations. If laid-off workers who have settled for part-time work or have given up looking for new jobs are included, the unemployment rate rose to 17 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994. All told, 15.1 million Americans are now out of work, the department said. And 7.2 million jobs have been eliminated since the recession began in December 2007. The department said 571,000 of the unemployed dropped out of the work force last month, presumably out of frustration over the lack of jobs. That sent the participation rate,

High court says California can't raid transit funds
Lexica
by Lexica  10-2-2009
More: In their latest budget action, the governor and the Legislature approved a plan in July to close a $24 billion deficit, in part by siphoning $138 million from the public transit account to the Department of Developmental Services to pay for transporting developmentally disabled persons to regional centers. The July plan also counted on taking $254 million from public transit to repay transportation bond debt payments. In addition, the plan counted on shifting $622 million in transit funds to the general fund to pay for the previous year's debt service. The refusal of the Supreme Court to hear the appeal could push California's precariously balanced budget immediately into the red. Before losing this lawsuit, the state was already $200 million short.

If laid-off workers who have settled for part-time work or have given up looking for new jobs are included, the so-called underemployment rate reached 16.8 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994. That rate rose because the number of workers settling for part-time hours, either because their employer cut their work week or because that's all they could find, increased by about 300,000.

New facts and new troubles for Mexico
Roque Nuevo
by Roque Nuevo  9-2-2009    1
The estimated million plus Mexicans returning to Mexico plus the many more who choose to stay home, when earlier they would have gone to the other side, means more pressure on the nation's development. In this situation the country's GDP shrunk nine percent in the first quarter and a bit over ten percent in the second one. Whatever fiscal and economic reforms the government has planned are still being planned. The president insists on using his power to fight a useless losing drug war and effectively sabotaged the economy by locking the nation down for a month so that we wouldn't get the flu. The country cannot provide opportunities to vast swaths of the population. Now there is another swath to add to the others: returning illegal immigrants and others. Vast numbers of young unemployed kids whose skills are mainly in how to break the law and profit by it somehow are swelling the populace of Mexico's provincial backwaters (where most illegal immigrants come from) quite outside the a

"While we reject its finding that the government is liable for malicious prosecution, we uphold the court's alternate finding that the government is liable for intentional infliction of emotional distress," the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said on Thursday. "We conclude that the awards, though high, are not so grossly disproportionate to the harm sustained as to either shock our collective conscience or raise the specter of a miscarriage of justice."

Just for Drinking a Beer

At least they're going to use a smaller cane this time, and not just because it is a woman offender, but a very strict government ruled by the religious community. This is one more reason to love America. Keep the church where it belongs, and out of government and law enforcement! The woman said in an interview, that she accepts the caning, because "I want to respect the law". Well then why did she go to a public place and drink in front of everyone? From the sound of things, maybe this hotel had a reputation for breaking the rules, and she thought she was in a safe place. Since the article said she was caught in a "raid" on the place. The reason this is newsworthy is that she is the first woman to actually be caned for this. A giant step backward. Amnesty International condemned the sentence and many critics stated that this might harm Malaysia's reputation for being a moderate Muslim majority country.

Greenpeace Leader Admits Organization Put Out Fake Global Warming Data
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  8-22-2009
Old news for some. "Sackur accused Leipold and Greenpeace of releasing “misleading information” based on “exaggeration and alarmism,” pointing out that it was “preposterous” to claim that the Greenland ice sheet, a mass of 1.6 million square kilometers with a thickness of 3 km in the middle that has survived much warmer periods in history, would completely melt when it had stood firm for hundreds of thousands of years. “There is no way that ice sheet is going to disappear,” said Sackur. “I don’t think it will be melting by 2030. … That may have been a mistake,” Leipold was eventually forced to admit. However, Leipold made no apologies for Greenpeace’s tactic of “emotionalizing issues” as a means of trying to get the public to accept its stance on global warming."
