Bacteria growing in our soil
bhgfarms
by bhgfarms  1-1-2010
This is a huge thing for my family. My little girl who is now 3 came down with Ecoli poisoning 2 years ago. Her kidneys shut down and she had to have multiple blood transfusions..we almost lost her. She is now a healthy and normal little girl. But after much research we could not find a source..we were vegetarian at the time. The practice in our area was/is to put human manure on the fields! It is very well know that human waste is full of the drugs that everyone takes. They can clean the bacteria out of the water but not the drugs! Now if a farmer puts cow poop on his veggie field or chicken or human..they are all full of by products of extreme drugs and antibiotics..and these will make their way into the food supply. The only way to stop this is by many people taking a stand! We are headed for self sustainability..growing our own as much as possible!

The key to our sustainability...
egoldstein
by egoldstein  12-27-2009
I Amplify'd this statement directly from commentary posted by Open Intelligence here http://bit.ly/858Nur. It seems so simple, yet sadly is proving to be very difficult. Some very interesting clips on the subject have recently been Amplify'd by http://openintelligence.amplify.com and http://egs.amplify.com.

Laws of Sustainability (3)
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  12-27-2009
Following Bartlett's logic, it's a case of do or die (if not, do and die), if not on the level of the individual, then on the level of humankind. People need to start to care for themselves (and others!) on the level of the species. The selfish individualism fostered by the consumer economy and the whole trash heap of economic growth theory needs to thrown overboard first, otherwise the boat will most certainly sink.

Laws of Sustainbility (2)

Bartlett does not say what to do, exactly. But he strongly implies that the first thing to do is stop having children and the second is to cut consumption sharply.

Laws of Sustainability (1)

Thanks to Eric Snyder for this. I wanted to Amplify it a bit more (and classify it in our collections). Bartlett is brilliant and pulls no punches. For some of his other utterly complelling thinking on which these sustainability "Laws" are based. Here what we said in Clipmarks in 2007. "To understand the nature of accelerating change, see the Clips below. They show the statistical nature of the problem. Dr. Albert Bartlett: Arithmetic, Population and Energy (transcript) - Part 1 http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/9ACF7407-5408-4A61-9DEC-DAFA7484AECE/ Dr. Albert Bartlett: Arithmetic, Population and Energy (transcript) - Part 2 http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/26B7972E-AD22-4AC6-8AEC-E76CEF735804/ The solution has be implemented virtually instantaneously, if there is to be any chance of survival. But all it takes is a change of mind about the purpose of life -- from earth consumer / exploiter to earth carer / partner. To change one's mind takes only a micro-second and we alr

COP15 Attendees Arrive In Limousines To Sit In Eco-Friendly Chairs

While they hobnob around Copenhagen in gas guzzling limousines, enjoy only the finest chow and booze, remember what their ultimate goal is. Environmentalists consider their Final Solution to be based on science, but it’s really all about them. It always has been, and what are a few million dead black babies if they get to save the planet so they can rule it….

Degrowth: Is it the only answer to sustainability
egsnyder
by egsnyder  12-12-2009
I've been thinking about this for a long time. Growth is unsustainable. Yet, we define success by measures of growth. Have we got it all wrong? Seems like at least some are talking about this at Copenhagen.

A couple weeks ago, the SF First POWER group (homeless and formerly homeless peer advocates, already working to help others around the city, at the main library and outreach) and SF Project Homeless Connect and the Hayes Valley residents started a Garden Community at Octavia & Lily Streets.
