ACORN Democrat Hack (WhiteWashes) FINDS NO Illegal Pattern on Videos
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 10:25 PM    3
The organization's leadership has made reforms in finances and governance a priority, the Harshbarger report stated. However, it added, this focus has not yet been matched by similar attention to delivering services to ACORN's clients. The videos of ACORN staffers offering advice to a woman and a man posing as a prostitute and her boyfriend triggered a firestorm of criticism this fall, with some ACORN employees appearing willing to support illegal schemes involving tax advice, misuse of public funds and illegal trafficking in children. The videos "feed the impression that ACORN believes it is above the law," stated the Harshbarger report, intended as an independent examination of the issues. "We did not find a pattern of intentional, illegal conduct by ACORN staff involved; in fact, no action, illegal or otherwise, was ever taken by any ACORN employee on behalf of the videographers," Harshbarger said in a statement.

The Nullification of ObamaCare
kareval
by kareval  Yesterday 7:05 PM    3
So if you think marching on D.C. or calling your Representatives, or threatening to “throw the bums out” in 2010 or 2012 or 20-whatever, is going to further the cause of the Constitution and your liberty—you might as well get your shackles on now. Your last chance has come and gone. The real way to resist DC is not by begging politicians and judges in Washington to allow us to exercise our rights…it’s to exercise our rights whether they want to give us “permission” to or not. Nullification—state-level resistance to unconstitutional federal laws—is the way forward. When a state nullifies a federal law, it is proclaiming that the law in question is void and inoperative, or ’effective,’ within the boundaries of that state; or, in other words, not a law as far as that state is concerned. It’s peaceful, effective, and has a long history in the American tradition. It’s been invoked in support of free speech, in opposition to war and fugitive slave laws, and more. Read more on thi

Obama's Health-Care Gamble
jatfla
by jatfla  1-2-2010
Amazingly this is coming from Newsweek's Howard Fineman. He goes on to say: "The effort to jam the bill through Congress made the public dubious. Most Democrats voted for a version of the bill on the first round without having read, let alone digested, its thousands of pages. As the Christmas Eve vote approached, desperate last-minute stocking stuffers appeared in the small print, such as a $1.2 billion payoff to the state of Nebraska that secured Sen. Ben Nelson's reluctant vote." There's much more and it's indeed very telling. Get a grip Capitol Hill and "start over". Nobody wants it as is.

Republican Attorneys General in 13 States Threaten Lawsuit Over Health Care
merrie
by merrie  12-30-2009    1
The 60-39 vote marked the third time in as many days Democrats posted a supermajority needed to advance the legislation. The letter was signed by top prosecutors in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington state. All are Republicans, and McMaster and the attorneys general of Florida, Michigan and Pennsylvania are running for governor in their respective states. Last week, McMaster said he was leading several other attorneys general in an inquiry into the constitutionality of the estimated $100 million deal he has dubbed the "Cornhusker Kickback." Republican U.S. Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint of South Carolina raised questions about the legislation, which they said was amended to win Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson's support. WHERE in the Constitution does it say:
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  12-30-2009    2
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) said there is “no place in the Constitution” that grants Congress the authority to require that Americans purchase health insurance, as both the Senate and House health care bills do. She added that the health care bill recently passed by the Senate is a “trampling of individual rights.” Senator Hutchinson said: “There is no place in the Constitution that allows this trampling of individual rights, and I am going to make a point of order that it tramples on the 10th Amendment as well, the rights of states to regulate insurance. And, in my state, we have a self-insurance plan for state employees and teachers, and the federal government now has the right to intrude on that – and it’s not in the Constitution either.”

Blue State Governors Cry Foul Over Health Care Bill
merrie

“When asked for my support, I was assured that federal legislation would not increase costs to California or include new unfunded mandates,” Schwarzenegger wrote. “Unfortunately, under nearly every scenario we can predict, the federal health care reform legislation being debated would cost California’s General Fund an additional $3 billion to $4 billion annually.” ….. Arnold’s already looking for a bailout from Uncle Sam. They loved Porkulus, but it’s not going to help them now. The sad thing is, it’s doubtful either one of them has anything against government takeover of health care. They just don’t want it passed onto their state budgets. MYG | Nebraska's Sen. Ben Nelson
altaloman
by altaloman  12-30-2009
He made recent headlines for his deal making on health care reform, but will his legislative success spell doom with Nebraska voters? ___ In 1990, Ben Nelson entered the realm of Nebraska politics by running for Governor. He won the Democratic primary by only 42 votes and entered the governor’s office by besting incumbent Kay Orr by 4,000 votes. Nelson’s plan as Governor was to bridge the gaps between rural and urban areas " a “One Nebraska” " and create a “more efficient and effective state government.” These successes did not go unrecognized, for when Nelson was re-elected Governor in 1994, he attracted 74% of the vote, the largest margin of victory for a governor in half century. In 2000, Nelson ran for the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Senator Bob Kerrey. Nelson, a conservative Democrat, carried the day even as Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush won Nebraska with 62% of the vote. ___ http://senate.gov.twi.bz/h

Former U.S. attorney Alan Bersin is nominated to run CBP, and former FBI agent and police detective Erroll Southers is the president's pick for TSA. On Christmas Day, alleged terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian who spent time in Yemen, was able to sneak an explosive device aboard his flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, only to be thwarted by the device's apparent failure to work as designed, and aggressive action by other passengers. Abdulmutallab was not on the government's terrorist watch list " though he was on a less sensitive and broader database. He was able to maintain a valid U.S. visa despite warnings about him to U.S. embassy officials in Nigeria from his father. Those facts are prompting a broad review of the government's terrorist detection efforts. "The United States will more than simply strengthen our defenses," Obama said Monday. "We will continue to use every element of our national power to disrupt, to dismantle and defeat the violent extremists

Cross The River, Burn The Bridge by Mark Steyn

by merrie  12-29-2009    2
There is no reason on earth why Nebraska should be the only state in this Union to have every dime of its increased Medicare tab picked up by the 49 others. So either that privilege will be extended to all, or to favored others, or its asymmetry will be balanced by other precisely targeted lollipops hither and yon. Whatever happens, it’s a dagger at the heart of American federalism, just as the bill’s magisterial proclamation that the Independent Medicare Advisory Board can only be abolished by a two-thirds vote of the Senate strikes at one of the most basic principles of a free society " that no parliament can bind its successors. These details are obnoxious not merely in and of themselves but because they tell us the truth about where we’re headed: Think of the way almost every Big Government project bursts its bodice and winds up bigger and more bloated than its creators allegedly foresaw. In this instance, the stays come pre-loosened, and studded with loopholes.

..... We know that he was greatly influenced by Marxists or people who viewed Communism sympathetically, not the least of which were his grandparents who introduced him to a mentor , Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Communist Party USA. The recent United Nations' Climate Change Conference refused to take notice of the revelations that the data on which the "global warming" theory is based was falsified by a handful of meteorologists and climatologists in an effort to impose a global governing system. The interim first Secretary General of the UN was Alger Hiss, an American and secret Soviet agent. Virtually the entire agenda of American environmental organizations has been focused on an attack on private property rights and denying Americans access to their vast reserves of energy in the form of coal, oil, and natural gas, thus undermining U.S. growth and prosperity.

Health-care bill lets both parties down
jasonkelly
by jasonkelly  12-28-2009
The winner is the insurance industry, as anybody who's been watching Washington for a while knew months ago. Just follow the money. The insurance lobby spent far more than any other during the shaping of this disaster, but now they don't look like the bad guys who blocked health care reform. It's a perfect victory for them. Reform passed, goes the headline, but quietly the insurance industry is better off than ever, while the initial problem this legislation was supposed to solve is left unsolved. Ours is a dying empire. Get yourself ready.

Obama's health insurance is deadly fiasco

I don't usually comment on US health care, BUT to be *forced* to pay private profit-making company for inadequate health coverage, with premiums increasing as I age, would make me very riled. And the policy won't do any good for the image of Obama, the Federales, or the health insurance industry. Where is Ralph Nader and a third Party when you need them? Couldn't he get together with Ron Paul -- the ultimate coalition. Howard Dean seems to understand what's going on, but he's an MD. If I were an American, then I would want to try something different. Anything! Why aren't people organising?

Obama's Critics Are Also in His Administration
merrie
by merrie  12-27-2009    1
Those deficits were nothing compared to those provided in Obama's budget. His deficits would last years after the recession is over and in spite of the massive tax increases that promises to accompany them. The Democrats correctly criticized Bush's deficits. Feldstein notes that Obama's deficits, because of its expensive health care agenda will reach $9.3 trillion -- more than twice the amount of the previous administration. In an earlier article in the Washington Post, Feldstein noted that "For the 85 percent of Americans who already have health insurance, the Obama health plan is bad news. It means higher taxes, less health care and no protection if they lose their current insurance because of unemployment or early retirement." Feldstein also notes that the price of the program is enormous and would cost more than $1 trillion and would raise the current maximum tax rate from 35 to 45 percent.

'not green enough' will be rationed. The cross enforcement of anti-pollution laws and green technologies will bring the EPA to the party as an enforcement arm tailored to regulating all manner of pollution producers. Think of banning riding mowers as creating pollution and a sedentary lifestyle, thus running afoul of the 'Green AND Obesity Police.' Want to smoke a cigar with your goombahs at the local pizzeria? Fuggedaboudit! Pizza will, of course, be banned or regulated as a major cause of obesity. Those ovens that pump out CO2 by the cubic yard have got to go, too. And cigars? Not only do they cause cancer, global warming and spew aroma pollutants, but the second hand smoke is a weapon used to assault other peoples' health. Now fur-wearing can be rightfully banned as the glorification of sport hunting among otherwise 'civilized' people.
