All Americans have the right not to own a home!
egoldstein
by egoldstein  Yesterday 5:14 PM    2
The idea expressed over the past decade that all Americans should be able to own a home has proved to be flat wrong. Nice in theory - not even close to realistic. Now we're left with people voluntarily ditching houses they can't afford. As far as the morality or responsibility of it - I say people should do what they have to do to protect themselves and their family. They owe the banks and the system that got us into this mess absolutely nothing!

What being an American means to me
kareval
by kareval  Yesterday 8:56 AM    5
Being an American means I can want what you have and find a way to earn it myself. It means knowing that tomorrow can be a better day if I chose to make it so. It means I have a voice and a vote and it matters as much as yours does. It is knowing the Constitution of the United States protects my God given rights to live free and prosper with limited government intervention. Being an American has meant believing and worshiping freely in the faith we choose or choosing not to believe at all. It has meant raising our children with the values and morality that we as parents believe are important. The freedom to think critically, to question and to challenge that which we believe wrong and unjust without fear of retaliation from the government. People have crossed vast bodies of water and walked through the hottest deserts in order to have a chance of being and living as an American. They risk death to get here. They leave behind loved ones and all they have known to come here.

Avatar, not Ed, will make the case on climate
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  1-6-2010
The DVD is on order! It seems that the film can also influence rather skeptical adults, too. It's not whether climate change is man made, or not. It is the whole process of the destruction of eco-systems causing extinctions and suffering amongst those 'non human persons' who had lived there. The issue is one of morality, not science.

Where The Preaching Goes Too Far
debbyski
by debbyski  1-3-2010    7
There is no war on evangelical Christians here and they are not being thrown to the lions. As this article states, they are childishly chafing against societal shifts. They don't want to see civil rights for us all because they believe God discriminates and it's their view of religion/politics or the highway. They will always find "token" gays to mimic their views because those poor souls think loving their oppressors will win them approval. But spreading these views to parts of the world with less freedom is downright dangerous and unconscionable.

Tell her, tell her about the army, tell her to be proud of the army. Tell her about the family of dead girls, tell her their names why not, tell her the whole world knows why shouldn't she know? tell her there's dead babies, did she see babies? tell her she's got nothing to be ashamed of. Tell her they did it to themselves. Tell her they want their children killed to make people sorry for them, tell her I'm not sorry for them, tell her not to be sorry for them, tell her we're the ones to be sorry for, tell her they can't talk suffering to us.

"Depravity commands respect. Success is cast as evil and punished while failure is blamed on others and rewarded. Rand’s insights into the psychological state of collectivists—those who demand that we sacrifice our individual freedom and happiness for the sake of the state—explain what often seems incomprehensible to thinking people."

Toy Company introduces the 'Doll in a Burka' for Iranian export!

We also included a removable plastic brain, since our friends in Iran like women that have that feature." They has also added new accessories for their Doll in a Burka line up...A pink suicide bomber vest! A jewel encrusted dagger, and an internal recording that shouts in Farsi.."Down with America!" "Next, for the anniversay of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, we'll be adding the Jimmy Carter doll complete with an array of sharp pins!" Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told friends he was buying three to bring back home from New York City. Since he only has two daughters, speculation is that he wanted one for himself, since he often talked about 'peek-a-booing up a burka' as a source of getting turned on.

America's Epitaph

by dl211  12-14-2009
Karl Marx dismissed God as a hoax, and Lenin and Stalin have added in clear-cut, unmistakable language their resolve that no nation, no people who believe in a god, can exist side by side with their communistic state. Karl Marx, for example, expelled people from his Communist Party for mentioning such things as love, justice, humanity or morality. He called this "soulful ravings" and "sloppy sentimentality." . . . Today we are engaged in a final, all-out battle between communistic atheism and Christianity. The modern champions of communism have selected this as the time, and ladies and gentlemen, the chips are down--they are truly down.

Reminding Caesar of God’s Existence
Jacob173

Beginning at a meeting in New York in late September, Christian leaders came together across the historic lines of ecclesial difference — Catholics, Protestants, and Eastern Orthodox Christians — to bear witness to three foundational principles of justice and the common good: (1) the sanctity of human life in all stages and conditions; (2) the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife; and (3) religious liberty and freedom of conscience.

The "Right" Side of Gay

Would you defend the "morality" of Paris, Kim, or Carrie? Seriously. They can go about doing whatever they want, as long as it's legal, but I could never imagine rallying to defend them. But that's just me. Though I do have to wonder why people like Hannity and other so-called conservatives are so bent on defending Prejean, I haven't seen them defend Kim or Paris like this, quite the opposite for some. Which is why I ask, is it because she was on the "right side of gay"?

The Neuroscience of Sin! Why do we do it?
ronhuxley
by ronhuxley  10-17-2009
Reading this article made me think of the proverbial "chicken and the egg." The article suggests that we sin because our brains are evolutionarily designed to do so. This leaves us to conclude that you cannot manage sin as it is hardwired in. I don't agree with that. I think sin is the chicken! The article does a great job of illustrating how various emotions and motives play out in the brain not the other way around. The good news is the very last paragraph. Read it for yourself...enjoy!

The Next Culture War
debbyski
by debbyski  9-29-2009
"During this period, debt exploded. In 1960, Americans’ personal debt amounted to about 55 percent of national income. Our current cultural politics are organized by the obsolete culture war, which has put liberals on one side and conservatives on the other. But the slide in economic morality afflicted Red and Blue America equally. If there is to be a movement to restore economic values, it will have to cut across the current taxonomies. Its goal will be to make the U.S. again a producer economy, not a consumer economy."

Europe’s complicity in evil
The Infowarrior

"Nothing is any different under Obama. Obama has escalated war in Afghanistan; started a new war in Pakistan; tolerated or supported a military coup that overthrew the elected president of Honduras; is constructing seven new US military bases in Colombia, South America; is going forward with various military projects designed to secure US global military hegemony, such as the Prompt Global Strike initiative that intends to provide the US with the capability to strike anywhere on earth within 60 minutes; is working to destabilize the government in Iran, with military attack still on the table as an option; supports America’s new military African Command; intends to encircle Russia with US bases in former constituent parts of the Soviet Union; has suborned NATO troops as mercenaries in US wars of aggression." How should Europe react?"

Why PROPAGANDA Trumps Truth
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  9-16-2009    2
What the sociologists are telling us is that by the time facts become clear, people are emotionally wedded to the beliefs planted by the propaganda and find it a wrenching experience to free themselves. It is more comfortable, instead, to denounce the truth-tellers than the liars whom the truth-tellers expose.
