POPSWho Are The Real Pirates In Africa's Waters? Like the pirates of the ``golden age’’, today's Somali pirates see themselves as fighting for justice. As Sugale Ali told the October 1, 2008, NYT: ``We don’t consider ourselves sea bandits. We consider sea bandits those who illegally fish in our seas and dump waste in our seas and carry weapons in our seas. We are simply patrolling our seas. Think of us like a coast guard.’’ ``The truth is, if you ask any Somali, if getting rid of the pirates only means the continuous rape of our coast by unmonitored Western vessels, and the production of a new cancerous generation, we would all fly our pirate flags high. It is time that the world gave the Somali people some assurance that these Western illegal activities will end, if our pirates are to their operations. We do not want the EU and NATO serving as a shield for these nuclear waste-dumping hoodlums.’’

POPSAssault On ‘Global New Deal’ By European Union Leaders The assault by European Union leaders also represents a defeat for President Barack Obama, who is desperate for other big economies to copy his $800 billion stimulus plan. Adding to the disarray, a draft of the agreement Brown hopes to secure was leaked to a German news magazine, prompting suggestions of “dirty tricks” by Berlin. The draft stated that Britain wanted a “$2 trillion” global fiscal stimulus. However, the figure appeared only in brackets, indicating agreement on the package had yet to be reached. The stimulus would boost world growth by 2% and employment by 19m, the draft said. The rest of the document was mainly general pledges. “We believe that an open world economy, based on the principles of the market, effective regulation and strong global institutions, can ensure sustainable globalisation with rising well-being for all,” it said.

POPSA Brief History Of Political Correctness established in 1923 by Felix Weil, Marxist son of a millionaire German trader, in association with Frankfurt University. The work of the Institute, which came to be called the Frankfurt School, was to translate Marxism from economic into cultural terms. Political Correctness as it is known today was created by that Institute. Essentially the task had been completed by the end of the 1930s. Other key members of the Frankfurt School were Theodore Adorno, Erich Fromm and Herbert Marcuse. Fromm and Marcuse introduced the central sexual element into Political Correctness. The call for sexual liberation, which will supposedly lead to human sensual happiness, figures prominently in the work of the Institute. In a 1936 essay, ‘Egoism and the Movement for Emancipation’, Frankfurt School director Max Horkeimer discussed the “hostility to personal gratification inherent in bourgeois culture.” He referred favourably to the Marquis de Sade for his “protest…

POPS High Drama & High Finance Not only has Ferguson been described as 'the most brilliant historian of his generation' by The Times, he's been rated as 'one of the world's 100 most influential people' by Time magazine. From the first coins of ancient Mesopotamia to the rise of China and the credit crunch, via the Medicis of Renaissance Italy, the Scottish clergymen who created the first insurance company and the dynasty started by the first Nathan Rothschild, Ferguson provides a clear and masterful financial history of the world. He shows, for example, how the high-financial scam of a Scottish murderer resulted in the French Revolution, how the bond market settled the outcome of the American Civil War, and, chillingly, how a previous era of globalisation and prosperity was ended almost overnight by the surprise catastrophe of World War I.

POPSKrugman Wins Nobel in Economics Look for the right to really hate this. It gives you an idea of just how devalued unregulated markets and supply-side economics has become. It's too bad it took a market-failure to finally kill it off.
