POPSObama Could Dump Biden for Clinton as VP in 2012 ..... of Clinton admirers, give Obama more of a pragmatic luster, and shunt the gaffe-prone Biden aside. And it would theoretically discourage Clinton, a former senator from New York, from challenging Obama in the 2012 primaries, Democratic insiders say, because as vice president she would be considered Obama's heir for 2016. Clinton would be 69 that year, the same age as Ronald Reagan when he won the presidency in 1980. As for Clinton, she has said that she doesn't plan to serve as secretary of state longer than four years, but so far she has expressed no interest in another presidential run. She was the favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 but lost to Obama after a long series of primaries and caucuses.A White House strategist attributed the speculation about Biden and Clinton to "cocktail party chatter" and said Obama is "very pleased" with Biden's job performance. http://www.usnews.com

POPSCosta Rica elects first woman President Even Costa Ricans on the margins of society backed Chinchilla. POPSNPO | Obama budget: Higher taxes on wealthy, less revenue for charity?
“It’s frankly surprising to see this proposal come back this year, it was very controversial last year,” said Tom Riley, vice president for communications at the Philanthropy Roundtable. “This of all times isn’t the time to take actions that would discourage charitable giving. The need for non-profits hasn’t been higher for a generation.” Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center said the rule change would make it about 10 percent more expensive for individuals affected to donate to charity. He estimated that would correspond to a $10 billion drop in donations out of the $300 billion Americans give annually. “From the perspective of charities, they’re in a tough time right anyway,” Williams said. “Some charities have been seeing a drop-off in donations and charities themselves that have endowments are seeing a drop-off in return from investments. It’s a double whammy.” ___ SOURCE | http://dailycaller.twi.bz/a ___ SEARCH | http://go

POPSText of Obama State of the Union speech: 1/27/10. Opening remarks Like many other Democrats, I was more than pleased with President Obama's assessment of the state of the union. My reasons: minimum high rhetoric, limited ambitions, occasionally even handed between political parties, call to the better angels in Republicans, took on the recent controversial Supreme Court decision, focused on jobs, but did not walk away from health care reform. He showed sensitivity and leadership when it was of paramount importance.

POPSCutting SSI and Medicare or Here We Go Again
Whether the Administration is Repub or Dem, it's just dying to get its grubby little paws on that Social Security money. Crap,crap, crap! More from the article/letter below: "For nearly three decades, Social Security has taken in more revenue each year than it has paid out in benefits. These excess funds have been invested in special issue U.S. government securities. Thus, Social Security has effectively been loaning its excess funds to the federal government to spend on other programs. Rather than increasing the federal deficit, Social Security’s annual surpluses have actually been covering up the true size of the deficit in the general fund." There are no congressional hearings and no opportunity for members of the House to weigh in on the proposals. To rub salt in the wound, this plan was largely crafted not by members of the House, but by vice president and former Delaware senator Joe Biden along with two senators:Kent Conrad, the North Dakota Democrat ... and Republican Judd Gr

POPSBiden: US to Appeal Dismissal of Blackwater Case How can American citizens get a fair trial when the President and Vice President have stated that they are guilty? The U.S. rebuffed Iraqi demands that the U.S. contractors face trial in Iraqi courts. After a lengthy investigation, U.S. prosecutors charged five of the contractors with manslaughter and took a guilty plea from a sixth. But the case fell apart in December after a judge found that the Justice Department mishandled evidence and violated the guards’ constitutional rights. Prosecutors now face difficult odds getting an appeals court to reinstate the case. Luckily, under Mr. Obama’s regime, constitutional rights are only for foreign terrorists. Not American citizens who are risking their lives for our national security. And, lo and behold, we find buried at the bottom of this AP story: Court documents paint a murky picture of a case rife with conflicting evidence. Some witnesses say the Blackwater convoy was under fire;

POPS‘Frozen Gore’ sculpture The first statue went on display last year. This year’s version is hooked up to the exhaust of a pickup truck to make it appear Gore is spouting hot air. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the smoke drew laughs from a crowd Tuesday as a Gore speech on climate change played over a loudspeaker. The sculpture was commissioned by two businessmen, Craig Compeau and Rudy Gavora, who want Gore to discuss global warming in Fairbanks. "We don’t agree with his theories—we’re suspicious of the financial motivation behind them," Compeau said. Last year’s inaugural Gore ice sculpture got national attention, including mentions on The Drudge Report, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. Compeau said his Web site with photos and information about the sculpture attracted 1.7 million visitors. He also was swamped with mostly positive e-mails from people who found the sculpture entertaining.
