Cloudy weather halts STS-130 shuttle launch -- from the New York Times.com
CarolGee
by CarolGee  2-7-2010
The six astronauts were all prone and in their seats, the tanks were full, and the white room crew had pulled away. The shuttle's cargo bay was loaded with new digs for the International Space Station. It was to have been the last night launch. But it was "no go" for Endeavour. NASA will try again tomorrow.

All planets experience climate change
amgumen
by amgumen  2-5-2010    5
All planets experience climate change. Nasa scientists recorded Mars warming by 0.5C since the 1970s, which is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over the same period. In the Red Planet's case, strong winds are thought to have stirred up giant dust storms, trapping heat and raising Mars' temperature.

JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  2-2-2010
Presumably it would be wise to shut down the Internet for a couple of weeks at least? There could be no flying, either. That would take a lot of planning. There is, as yet, no evidence that any such planning is taking place. For terrorists, it would be a great time to cause mayhem, too. Obama to Propose $3.8 Trillion Budget
merrie
by merrie  2-1-2010    5
the National Science Foundation and the Census Bureau, which this year is conducting its decennial count of people living in the United States. The president is also proposing to cut back or eliminate 120 government programs, including projects by the Army Corps of Engineers and NASA's plan to return astronauts to the moon. It puts a three-year freeze on discretionary spending outside defense. That excludes the fastest growing parts of the budget -- entitlements like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as well as national security. The president will outline some steps tomorrow, including freezing non-discretionary spending -- spending that since 1995 has almost doubled in our federal budget," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on CNN on Sunday. According to the White House, the freeze would be $250 billion over a decade if those programs were to increase at the rate of inflation. "I think the presidents proposal on freezing non-security domestic .....

NASA Still Likes Killing Those Cute Little Animals
dmoonme1
by dmoonme1  2-1-2010
I was alerted by PeTA in a newsletter, that these sorts of things were still going on at NASA. I was curious so I went to the NASA website and simply typed in "testing on monkeys" and page after page rolled in front of my eyes. It's hard for me to grasp the full extent of all of these tests, surely it's going to take a lot of time to investigate all of these look-ups. I guess my point is, I thought we had gone beyond all of this crap. A terrible waste of life and taxpayers money. I did my taxes yesterday and this is the first time I have ever had to pay such a large amount. Mind you, I have recently retired, and I have much less than before. I don't want my tax money to go to such ridiculous endeavors! Do You?
