POPSIn Indonesia, life plays out in the shadow of fiery peaks "Death by volcano takes many forms: searing lava, suffocating mud, or the tsunamis that often follow an eruption. In 1883, Mount Krakatau (often misspelled as Krakatoa), located off Java's coast, triggered a tsunami that claimed more than 36,000 lives. The name became a metaphor for a catastrophic natural disaster."

POPSChris Matthews Stumps Right-Wing Radio Host: ‘Tell Me What Chamberlain Did?’ ‘I Don’t Know’ MATTHEWS: You don’t know what you’re talking about, Kevin. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Tell me what Chamberlain did wrong. JAMES: Neville Chamberlain was an appeaser, Chris. Neville Chamberlain was an appeaser, all right? MATTHEWS: I’ve been sitting here five minutes asking you to say what the president was referring to in 1938 at Munich. JAMES: I don’t know. MATTHEWS: You don’t know, thank you. You don’t understand there’s a difference between talking to the enemy and appeasing. What Chamberlain did wrong, most people would say, is not talking to Hitler, but giving half of Czechoslovakia in 1938. That’s what he did wrong. Appeasement is giving things away to the enemy.

POPSOpen your mouth and remove all doubt Taxpayers cough up an astounding $23.37 per megawatt hour of electricity produced, according to the Wall Street Journal. In contrast, coal and natural gas are only subsidized to a tune of $0.44 and $0.25, respectively. “Our economy depends upon clean and affordable alternatives to fossil fuels,” McCain stated. What he’s talking about is not quite clear since our current economy is about 75 percent dependent on fossil fuels and will remain that way for at least the next 25 years, as solar and wind technologies remain only marginal sources of energy. If anything, we are likely to be even more dependent on fossil fuels in the future as nuclear power, which now provides about 20 percent of our electricity, shrinks in availability as a supply of energy. Although our energy needs are ever-growing, construction of nuclear power plants is not keeping pace -- not one has come online in the last 30 years.

POPSDhimmi Dutch Prosecutors And Geert Wilders "Fitna" WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES SPIEGEL: You invoke the right to freedom of opinion but you demand a prohibition of the Koran. Does that not contravene the principle of religious tolerance? Wilders: For me, Islam is a vision of a society that defines all forms of interpersonal behavior -- from inheritance to criminal law. This ideology endangers our values. I hate it, I don't hate Muslims. SPIEGEL: Is the comparison between the Koran and Hitler's "Mein Kampf" not totally inappropriate? In making it, you're providing the imams with a perfect image of the enemy. Wilders: I want to provoke a discussion. Certain Koranic verses have moved their followers to commit the most abhorrent acts. Where is the imam who stands up in the Netherlands and says, for us, homosexuals are entitled to equal rights and everyone has the right to abandon their faith. http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/03/geert-wilders-i.html

POPSHuman Caused Climate Change Most educated people know that global warming is a misnomer. There are parts of the world that will cool while warming happens elsewhere. The key is to keep the oceanic conveyor belt stable so our climate remains fairly constant.
