A Cincinnati Zoo cheetah and one from South Africa will attempt to set the land speed record for mammals during August and September runs that aim to raise awareness of the plight of the endangered animals.
Sarah’s competition will be Zaza, an 8-year-old female cheetah from Cheetah Outreach in Cape Town, South Africa.
The cheetahs will not run side-by-side. Zaza will remain in South Africa, where on Aug. 15 she will get three runs on a 100-meter course. Her time and video will be shared with the Cincinnati Zoo before Sarah’s three runs, which are scheduled for Sept. 9 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. The runs will not be open to the public.
