It may be a galactic first -- a Colorado Springs 7-Eleven convenience store robbed early today by a man wielding a Klingon Bat'leth blade.

It's the weapon of choice for the war-like race on "Star Trek," but fairly rare in stickups on Earth.

A convenience store clerk told police that a robber in a dark jacket and a black mask wielded the long, curved blade invented for the science fiction franchise that grew out of the 1960s television series.

Police said the weapon - which is held with both hands in the center and at least four of five feet long - seems ill suited to robbing gas stations.

"I can't imagine it's very easy to conceal," Tobias said.

Police said the man got away with cash after robbing a 7-Eleven at 145 N Spruce St. at about 1:45 a.m. A second attempt about a half-hour later ended when he ran away from another 7-Eleven store at 2407 N. Union Blvd.

Police say the "uniqueness" of the weapon will likely be key to their investigation.
