Today is the first day of hurricane season and if you're on the Gulf Coast, you kow what that means.  We have to make sure our 72 hour kits are ready and the newscasters will start playing up every tropical depression as though it's going to be a Catagory 5 and headed straight for Houston.

I've been through three hurricanse so far- Alicia, Bob in New Hampshire and Rita.  Of course, I don't think Rita really counts if you stayed in Houston.  We stayed in an office building in town and the most we got were some blowing leaves and refreshing showers.  But we did leave our home for the sturdier building and learned a few lessons along the way.

Here's an article I wrote after Rita with some advice about training so that you and your dog are ready for natural disasters.  If I've got time, I'll follow up this week with a list for a dog 72 hour kit.
