Woman Triggers $10,000 Rescue Effort on Boise River for Missing Cell Phone

GARDEN CITY, Idaho —  Police in southwest Idaho say a woman who dropped her phone in the Boise River and then yelled for help to get it back resulted in reports of a woman who had fallen into the river.

Garden City Police say the resulting search on Tuesday on what turned out to be a false alarm drew 30 rescue workers and cost about $10,000.

Police say two people reported hearing a woman call for help near by fast-flowing Boise River near Les Boise Park, and that one said it sounded like the voice was moving as if being swept downstream.

Rescuers on land and on jet skis searched for more than an hour but couldn't find anyone in the river.
