DESPITE a decade of scepticism by the Coalition Government, the Australian public has become more aware of, and concerned by, the growing scientific evidence of climate change. Until this year, a sceptical John Howard and his ministers had assiduously ignored the advice coming from the 2000 scientists who make up the International Panel on Climate Change. That scepticism was encapsulated in the ABC's The Great Global Warming Swindle last night.

I found the narrative of Swindle to be compelling and half its conclusion acceptable, for it agreed the Earth is indeed warming. But I disagree with its denial of any human responsibility or need to change direction. That was the false and dangerous message from Swindle.
