Even the largest of music collection is rendered worthless when you are away from your home network.

Some portable music players can hold an entire collection but even the largest may require some comprimise on quality. One solution is to install software like TVersity on a home server, making an entire media collection available over the internet.

This latest version even includes the ability to play FLV and MP4 videos as they are downloaded onto the server, something which was previously only possible with WMV.

Once installed on a home server, media files can be played on a wide variety of devices including other desktop computers, iPhone and iPod, PSP, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii.

As well as an existing media collection, devices can also play back other online content. As most tagging standards are supported, it is simple to keep organise media and create playlists.
