Svake godine oko 200.000 žena i djece s jugoistoka Europe postaju žrtve trgovine ljudima. Ova je regija posebno ranjiva zbog loše ekonomske situacije, koja navodi mnoge žene da potraže bolju budućnost u sumnjivim obećanjima trgovaca ljudima.

Američki zakoni nalažu da se žrtve tretiraju humano, te da se trgovci ljudima oštro kazne. Jer, kako upozorava gospodin Miller, alternativa spašavanju žrtava i kažnjavanju krivaca, vrlo je mračna: "Razmislite samo o patnjama kroz koje prolaze žrtve.
