PETA's dirty secrets: 7 things you didn't know about PETA
Lexica
by Lexica  10-13-2009    3
More: regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents.… PETA…fund the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a deceptive animal rights group that promotes itself as an unbiased source of medical and nutritional information… PETA…billboards taunt Christians with the message that hogs "died for their sins."…And its infamous "Holocaust on Your Plate" campaign crassly compares the Jewish victims of Nazi genocide with farm animals. PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases…president Ingrid Newkirk has said that "even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it."

Let Pandas Die Out
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  10-2-2009    36
Whilst I really dislike the thought of these gorgeous creatures becoming extinct, the fact that to keep them alive means they have to survive in zoos - just "feels abominable" to me. They were born to live in the wild and if their habitat no longer exists I think it is cruel to keep them alive in zoos and artificially inseminate them to propogate their species. So this conservationist has a very convincing argument. Maybe we should be using the money to buy up land that is "home/habitat" for these creatures instead of putting them in zoos and subjecting them to even more "human control". Just because we like living in zoos I don't see why we should subject them to it.

Cheetah-dog partnership at the San Diego Zoo
Lexica
by Lexica  9-12-2009    1
More: Finally, when they died of old age, we decided to continue this dog and cheetah tradition. Chobe and Jessie were the second generation; Karroo and Sven are one of three current cheetah/dog pairs. We even have a wolf/dog pair: Akela and Nala! Where you can find them Karroo, a female cheetah, and Sven, her canine counterpart, appear regularly in shows and at the Wild Animal Park's Cheetah Run Safari. Their trainers talk about endangered species, our breeding success with cheetahs at the Wild Animal Park, and the importance of conservation and recycling. Also, look for a plaque commemorating Anna and Arusha, our first dog and cheetah pair, at the entrance of their first home, the Wegeforth Bowl, which hosts our sea lion shows.

Hope for Tiger Breeding
asphere
by asphere  4-28-2008
" They found that 49 of the 105 captive tigers, or about 47 percent, could be categorized as being of one of five subspecies. Since some of the 49 were from breeding programs, the researchers suggest that the percentage of purebreds in the full captive population is probably lower, about 14 percent to 23 percent. Still, that represents a new pool of genetically distinct tigers potentially available for breeding efforts. " new pool ! great news :)

Here we go folks...Keep 'em in captivity so they can die for your pleasure seeking fans: or let them be free for all to enjoy, just knowing they are still with us. Those nasty methane emitting creatures (sarcasm) Which way would you like to live? Eh? What did you say? Freedom? Hmm seems like we've had to kill to get that done before doesn't it? *note: The article also said that the infant mortality rate is double in zoos as well. Interesting too, that they live longer in a working environment as well.

Alone Again Naturally
dmoonme1
by dmoonme1  4-26-2009    2
I have been to this Zoo. I hate zoos, most aquariums and aviaries, and the idea of this poor creature facing years of loneliness in a tiny tank performing "tricks for fish" makes my guts stir. I believe this whale and it's late buddy, were captured in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, and hauled by truck to Tacoma. If you've ever been to Tacoma you know what a dump it is. I don't know why anyone would want to live there; filthy God forsaken place it is. That tank is not as big as an Olympic sized pool.
