I often referred to them as the "Apple" of online shoes when telling my friends about the service. That is to say, like Apple, Zappos was much more than just a product or service company for me - it was a brand that I wanted to be associated with. Naturally, I've been very interested in how this acquisition plays out. Bezos has often lauded the culture and acumen of Zappos but as this article points out, how much longer will Amazon allow Zappos to continue using ChoiceStream (product recommendations) as well as PayPal when both are owned by Amazon rival eBay...

POPSWas Zappos forced to sell by venture capitalisists? Too bad - it's the risk one takes when you give decision making power to those lending you money. Amazon does a good job but will not improve Zappos service and cannot favor them over other sellers unless Amazon thinks it can become what Federated Department Stores/Macy's once was.

I like the fact that now employees in other countries (China & Indonesia are the examples) can tweet about their work conditions. What does this say about the global community & global companies? I mean, if you know about working conditions in China, how will that affect the way you shop? Pretty interesting.
