Barack Obama Gets An ‘F’ for Protecting Americans
merrie
by merrie  12-30-2009    3
In his studied desire to be the unBush by responding coolly to events like this, Obama is dangerously close to failing as a leader. Yes, it is good not to shoot from the hip and make broad assertions without the facts. But Obama took three days before speaking to the American people, emerging on Monday in between golf and tennis games in Hawaii to deliver a rather tepid address that significantly underplayed what happened. He described Abdulmutallab as an “isolated extremist” who “allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device on his body” " phrases that indicate a legalistic, downplaying approach that alarms rather than reassures. Today’s words showed a lot more fire and desire to get on top of things " we’ll see whether Obama follows through with action. In the meantime, he went snorkelling. There has been a pattern developing with the Obama administration trying to minimise terrorist attacks. We saw it with Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad, a Muslim convert who murdered

Personality Types in Cyberspace
abailart

With a strong predilection towards disagreeing with people, their messages in email and discussion board groups often begin and are peppered throughout with words like "but" and "however." A more subtle oppositional message may start off with "well" or the namesake "yes but." Psychodynamic theory proposes that these people struggle with underlying feelings of hostility that can only be expressed passively or indirectly, via the act of disagreeing. They also may need to oppose others as a way to firm up their somewhat fragile identity or to boost self-esteem by proving themselves right and others mistaken. People with oppositional tendencies may be drawn to the intellectually contentious atmosphere of online discussion groups. That atmosphere, combined with the difficulties in establishing one's presence in a somewhat chaotic environment that lacks the identity-grounding cues of face-to-face contact, may also amplify oppositional tendencies.

Yes, I Am My Brother's Keeper.
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  12-25-2009    7
Keep your eye in the almighty dollar and your fellow man. Get the dollar and keep him down. Make him produce for you. You are not your brother's keeper. Suppose he is poor! Suppose his wife is forced into prostitution! Suppose his child is deformed! And suppose he shuffles off by destroying himself! What is that to you? And if you succeed, that fixes you as a businessman. You have all the necessary qualifications. Don't let your conscience disturb you.--that would interfere with business. Competition was natural enough at one time, but do you think you are competing today? Against whom? Against Rockefeller? When we are in partnership and have stopped clutching each other's throats, when we have stopped enslaving each other,we will stand together, hands clasped, and be friends. we will be comrades, we will be brothers, and we will begin the march to the grandest civilization the human race has ever known. Excerpts from Eugene V. Debs' famous speech on May 23, 1908.

Nebraska Rally opposing Senate Healthcare Bill and Reid's Pay-Off To Ben Nelson
merrie
by merrie  12-20-2009
and put the rest of America on the hook to fund Nebraska’s Medicaid expenses in perpetuity. In this case, Senator Nelson “reserved the right” to vote against the final version of the bill should the agreement he reached with Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Chuck Schumer change in a “material way”. In other words, Senator Nelson can claim he “I voted for it, before I voted against it”. I do NOT think Nebraskans will be as easily fooled as Senator Nelson hopes. 67% OPPOSE the Health Care Bill. A vote “YES” for cloture (to move the bill forward) is a “YES” vote for government run health care. Click Here to hear 1110 KFAB's exclusive interview PodCast (26:35) on Saturday, Dec. 19th, with Sen. Nelson http://bit.ly/4vdewo

a Uni Verse in Black and White
syncopath
by syncopath  11-22-2009    1
Yes, I know this road will take me nowhere There's no reason I should go there I should turn and walk away. I know every pebble on the path As I knew coming back Would only bring me sadness Still I stay, what can I do or say To end this love's enchantment I deny it, I avoid it It bewitches every single step I take With the same sad facts and sorrows Like an album of old photos I can't bring myself to put away Still the fool I was so long ago I look for answers where I know I've only found despair before. I relive the days of madness Sleepless nights, the poems, the sadness, Still I cannot turn away There's more for me to say This is my sin. I bring them down into the light These photographs in black and white Yes, that's the way it always starts I add a sonnet to my sad collection Words of sorrow and dejection Etched upon an aching heart. Another sonnet for my sad collection Full of sorrow and dejection To abuse my broken heart. (English version b

How to fix health care..if you really want to!
dl211
by dl211  11-29-2009
How about opening up the insurance industry to some competition by doing away with the anti-trust exemption which would allow the capitalists among them to sell insurance across state lines?? How about limiting the coverage for elective medical procedures, like nose jobs, breast enhancements and the like and, yes, abortions?? People who want their insurance to cover elective procedures should have the ability to add that to their basic coverage as an "extra" (for an additional out of pocket non-deductible premium). Obama & Congress could care less about really fixing the problem, Obama simply needs a victory....any kind of victory. If they did they would not shy away from tackling the major obstacles, tort reform, allowing the purchase of polices across state lines and cracking down on fraud associated with health-care.
