POPSBCBS Sabotage Health Care Reform at State Level Blue Cross Blue Shield speaks with forked tongue. Look for your state in list below: " Part of the reason the BCBS Association has claimed that it opposes the reform bill in its current form is because of what it perceives as a weak individual mandate. However, the BCBS Association-supported ALEC campaign depicts the very notion of an individual mandate as "anti-freedom." So either way the Senate acts, BCBS will be able to trash the bill and try to kill reform. According to ALEC, constitutional amendments have been filed or pre-filed in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Legislation is being discussed in 12 other states: Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Montana, Tennessee, and Utah. A bill passed the Arizona legislature in June, and will go to a public referendum in 2010."

POPSNo Matter What "Mr. Burgess, who has lived and worked for most of his 96 years in Wyoming and Nebraska as a hired farmhand and in later years as a machinist, still drives his truck almost every day into Torrington, Wyo., about eight miles from his home, for a hot lunch at the senior center. But his driver’s license expires in January, and he is deeply worried that he might not pass the test this time around. Mr. Burgess gets housekeeping assistance under a state program that helps older people stay in their homes and out of nursing care. But if he could not socialize in town, he said, he would be lost. “I might be on roller skates,” said Mr. Burgess, still cowboy-thin in cinched-up Levis, his booming outdoor voice filling his home on a recent snowy afternoon. He glanced around the tiny, cluttered living room — the coal stove, the broken television, the walls lined with pictures of his wife, Laura, who died just over a year ago after more than 60 years of marriage."

POPSThe Human Element I've known many sportsmen/women who love nature and hunting. Their efforts actually strengthen the deer herd by keeping the buck/doe ratio in check, keeping the deer population from being over bred and diseased, supplemental feeding of the right vitamins and minerals throughout the year, etc. I've picked up countless deer antlers in the woods and used them for all kinds of projects. The vile people who spot-light or run these animals on ATV for antlers or whatever make me ill. I'm an owner of a ATV and I ride it on my property ONLY. Anything else is disrespectful of other's and it affects those people who are responsible. Is there a solution to some who will break the law for material gain? It's the human element I suppose. One I abhor.

POPSGlobal Warming Legislation Effect on States The preceding is a list of the 50 state-by-state breakouts of the impact the bill would have on jobs and the economy. Lieberman-Warner (S.2191) relies heavily on an unproven technology, capturing carbon and sequestering it. Even with the most generous assumptions " presuming that carbon capture and sequestration is commercially developed in 10 years " the economic costs for the average American are staggering. Under a more realistic scenario, the economic impacts in terms of losses in the job market, losses in household budgets, and higher energy prices will be drastically higher. To make matters worse, there will be inconsequential effects on the environment to show for it, if any. The Senate's leading climate-change bill, while aiming to combat global warming by reducing carbon dioxide in the air, actually poses "extraordinary perils" for Americans and the economy, according to a new study from The Heritage Foundation.

POPSflorida auto insurance There are many people that will always take the minimum of what is required in order to save them added cost. In the state of Florida, it is required that everyone that owns their own transportation must obtain insurance for said vehicle. Provided they have a valid Florida license plate of course. Now, the minimum cost for coverage is ten thousand dollars for bodily injury to one person, twenty thousand dollars to all bodily injuries involved, and ten thousand dollars for property damage.

POPSWolf Hunts Will Go On; Judge Denies Injunction Bid
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and Idaho Fish and Game Commission maintained that wolf populations would not be endangered by the hunts, and Molloy found this argument more persuasive. “The defendants have offered scientific evidence that no irreparable harm will occur if the 2009 wolf hunts occur in Idaho and Montana,” Molloy stated. “Plaintiffs have failed to offer any contrary evidence. Good news in the bad Although Molloy did not stop the hunts, he did offer some good news for the environmental groups about a broader issue in the still-ongoing lawsuit to restore Endangered Species Act (ESA) status to wolves. It’s likely that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service violated the law when it summarily removed ESA protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies, he wrote. The agency did so in piecemeal fashion, delisting wolves in Montana and Idaho while keeping them federally protected in Wyoming, where state officials . . .

POPSThe $150 Edge-of-Space Camera: MIT Students Beat NASA On Beer-Money Budget
via Jules Crittenden Of course, all this would be pointless if the guys couldn’t find the rig when it landed, so they dropped a prepaid GPS-equipped cellphone inside the box for tracking. Total cost, including duct tape? $148. Launch Two weeks ago, on Sept. 2, at the leisurely post-breakfast hour of 11:45 a.m., the balloon was launched from Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Lee and Yeh took a road trip in order to compensate for the prevailing winds, which could have otherwise taken the balloon out onto the Atlantic, and checked in on the University of Wyoming’s balloon trajectory website to estimate the landing site. Because of spotty cellphone coverage in central Massachusetts, it was important to keep the rig in the center of the state so it could be found upon landing. Light winds meant the guys got lucky and, although the cellphone’s external antenna was buried upon landing, the fix they got as the balloon was coming down was close enough.

POPSEpic migration seen "through eyes of" antelope Photographer and biologist Joe Riis hopes to raise awareness of the animals' epic, ancient migration and to encourage action to protect it. "It's pretty incredible, because it's happening right in the middle of the United States," Riis said. "It seems like this type of stuff is long gone, and maybe most of the long migrations are. But this one is , and I think it's worth protecting."

POPSOld Warrior for Peace Pursues the Same Enemy To Father Kabat, the nuclear issue - and his protests - remain essential.
