Et Tu, Ivan? (just dropped a bomb on Copenhagen)
merrie
by merrie  12-17-2009
Ivan drops a bomb on Copenhagen. Unfortunately, it’s the kind of neutron bomb that is likely to leave the warmalist infrastructure standing. And thanks to robust tinfoil helmetry, even the soft targets are likely to survive the hit. Selective, distortional warmalist data culling is not a new claim. The hated skeptics have been saying this for some time. In this case, just one cautionary note … beware of Russkies bearing gifts. The last thing Ivan wants is for Europe to become less reliant on Ivan, and there is nothing Ivan likes more than confusion and consternation in the enemy camp. All of which is actually a good argument for the reasonable, rational and measured pursuit of conservation measures. Financial and national security bottom line, clean environment, all that. Not to be confused with economically ruinous policies in furtherance of highly controversial, unproven and apparently rigged theories.

Human Blood May Hold the Secret to Clean Coal
countryboylife
by countryboylife  12-3-2009    1
"As cells pump CO2 produced during respiration into the blood, the enzyme carbonic anhydrase converts the gas into bicarbonate for easier transport to the lungs. There the same enzyme works in reverse, turning the molecules back into the CO2 gas you exhale. This action could play the critical role of selectively capturing CO2 from mixed gas emissions for later sequestration. "

UNEP Document: Environmentalism, A False Religion
merrie
by merrie  12-2-2009    1
The positions argued in that paper now appear to be much closer at hand; many of them are embedded in a four-year strategy document for UNEP taking effect next year, in the immediate wake of the much-touted, 11-day Copenhagen conference on "climate change," which starts on Dec. 7, and which is intended to push environmental concerns to a new crescendo. The major difference is that the four-year UNEP plan expresses its aims in the carefully soporific language that U.N. organizations customarily use to swaddle their objectives. The Swiss document makes its case passionately " and more plainly " than any U.N. official document ever would. Or, more discreetly, as the strategy document puts it: "Integrated environmental assessments that highlight the state of the environment and trends will be used to inform decision-makers and ensure UNEP plays its lead environmental role in the United Nations system and strengthens its capacity to

Come Fry With Me: Mark Steyn

by merrie  12-2-2009    2
Wow. 443,243 miles. How many flying polar bears does Dr. Pachauri kill in an average quarter? Well, not to worry, he probably offsets his record-breaking ursocide with carbon credits from carbon billionaire Al Gore. And in any case it's okay to devastate the planet on IPCC business " plus the occasional cricket match: So strong is his love for cricket that his colleagues recall the time the Nobel winner took a break during a seminar in New York and flew in to Delhi over the weekend to attend a practice session for a match before flying back. Again, he flew in for a day, just to play that match. And why not? Aside from a slight increase in the risk of polar bears dropping from the skies onto stray Indian bowlers and wicket-keepers, where's the harm? P.S. I like the headline on Dr. Pachauri's climate'n'cricket story: "Heat On Cricket Pitch Warms This Climate Change Laureate."

Obama, Maurice Strong, Al Gore Key Players Cashing In On Chicago Climate Exchange
merrie
by merrie  11-3-2009    1
The nondescript Strong, nonetheless is the big cheese in the underworld of climate change and is one of the main architects of the failing Kyoto Protocol. Full credit for the expose on the business partnership of Strong and Gore in the cap-and-trade reduction scheme should go to the investigative acumen of the Executive Intelligence Review (EIR). The tawdry tale of the top two global warming gurus in the business world goes all the way back to Earth Day, April 17, 1995 when the future author of “An Inconvenient Truth” travelled to Fall River, Massachusetts, to deliver a green sermon at the headquarters of Molten Metal Technology Inc. (MMTI). MMTI was a firm that proclaimed to have invented a process for recycling metals from waste. Gore praised the Molten Metal firm as a pioneer in the kind of innovative technology that can save the environment, and make money for investors at the same time. “Gore left a few facts out of his speech that day,” wrote EIR.

World Animal Day 2009
chestnut501
by chestnut501  10-17-2009    3
World Animal Day started in Florence, Italy in 1931 at a convention of ecologists. On this day, animal life in all its forms is celebrated, and special events are planned on locations all over the globe. 4 October was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals and the environment. Numerous churches throughout the world observe the Sunday closest to 4 October with a Blessing for the Animals.

Antibiotic Resistance at Factory Farms
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  8-22-2009
More (way more at article website): Kellogg Schwab, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Water and Health, refers to a typical pig farm manure lagoon that he sampled. "There were 10 million E. coli per liter . Ten million. And you have a hundred million liters in some of those pits. So you can have trillions of bacteria present, of which 89 percent are resistant to drugs. That's a massive amount that in a rain event can contaminate the environment." One day, a Bloomberg School colleague down the hall from Silbergeld came back from a weekend on the Eastern Shore complaining about how disgusting she'd found having to drive behind a truck hauling chickens to a processing plant. They found that the air in the car and both surfaces showed increased levels of enterococci after they'd driven behind the chicken trucks. Graham had trapped the flies near poultry farms on the Eastern Shore and found resistant staph and enterococci on them.

“The Fall of Capitalism and the Rise of Islam” By Sher Zieve

by merrie  7-20-2009    4
We are already observing Obama working feverishly to destroy capitalism. He and his willing minions in Congress--who now report ONLY to him and no longer to We-the-People--are passing anti-USA legislation each and every day; from new taxes being voted on and passed by the ruling majority in the dead of night to Cap and Trade (alternately known as both Cap and Tax and Cap and Con) which is designed by Obama and his team to raise electricity rates for families by at least 40%. On 17 January 2008, the dictator even admitted that his intent was to skyrocket electricity rates! How many really heard or actually listened to what he said? Note: The Obama-Con Cap and Trade program does NOT do anything to either help the environment or We-the-People. But it places LOTS of our tax money in the hands of Obama and Friends. Obama and his adherents in Congress are working fervently to force his soon to be US serfs into his Socio-fascist “universal” health care; health care that has . . . .

Imagine a World Without Fish

Quotes from the Makers of the Film We must stop thinking of our oceans as a food factory and realize that they thrive as a huge and complex marine environment. We must act now to protect the sea from rampant overfishing so that there will be fish in the sea for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. -- Charles Clover, the book's author Overfishing is the great environmental disaster that people haven't heard about." A recent global conference about bluefin tuna stocks saw almost no media coverage in the U.S. We hope this film really sounds the alarm. We can fix this problem starting right now. -- Producer George Duffield Reading the book The End of the Line changed my life and what I eat. I hope the film will do the same for others. -- Producer Claire Lewis

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is twice the size of France
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  4-25-2009
I know this is an old story, but like the plastic and trash we keep throwing away, it just won’t go away. Measurements show there is six times more plastic than plankton in this area. Plastic does not biodegrade; no microbe has yet evolved that can feed on it. Prolonged exposure to sunlight causes polymer chains to break down into smaller and smaller pieces, a process accelerated by physical friction, such as being blown across a beach or rolled by waves. Worldwide, according to the United Nations Environment Programme, plastic is killing a million seabirds a year, and 100,000 marine mammals and turtles. Bottle caps, pocket combs, cigarette lighters, tampon applicators, cottonbud shafts, toothbrushes, toys, syringes and plastic shopping bags are routinely found in the stomachs of dead seabirds and turtles. Every single molecule of plastic that has ever been manufactured is still somewhere in the environment, and some 100 million tons of it are floating in the oceans.

by chara  3-9-2009    4
International woman's day 2009. What do we do when the scope of violence against women is so unimaginable, so extreme and enormous, that it is beyond our vision? Beyond our realm of thinking? How is it possible that we live in a world where one doctor has treated 25,000 victims of rape for mutilation and suffering? For those of us who are safe from the world of the Congo, who are unable to go there, to physically help the thousands of women who are victims of rape as a tactic of war, we read about it. We learn about it. We bear witness to it. So that we can help in other ways. So that we can stop it from ever happening in other places, in future wars. To make rape a tactic of war IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. ANYWHERE.
