If You Donate A Kidney To Dad, You Won't Get Insurance Again.
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-6-2009    4
Mr. Waddington has polycystic kidney disease, or PKD, a genetic disorder that leads to kidney failure. First he lost one kidney, and then the other. A year ago, he was on dialysis and desperately needed a new kidney. Doctors explained that the best match — the one least likely to be rejected — would perhaps come from Travis or Michael, his two sons, then ages 29 and 27. Travis and Michael each had a 50 percent chance of inheriting PKD. And if pre-donation testing revealed that one of them had the disorder, that brother might never be able to get health insurance. As a result, their doctors had advised not getting tested. After all, new research suggests that lack of insurance increases a working-age person’s risk of dying in any given year by 40 percent. “At the time David needed a transplant, the people closest to him couldn’t even offer a lifesaving donation — for insurance reasons,” said Mr. Waddington’s wife, Susan.

Steve Russell (R) Unmitigated audacity (BALLS).
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  9-8-2009
Steve Russell (R) Unmitigated Audacity (BALLS) “As far as I am concerned, this is not civics education — it gives the appearance of creating a cult of personality. This is something you’d expect to see in NORTH KOREA or in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq,” – Republican Senator Steve Russell said about Obama’s speech to students http://www.ardmoreite.com/news/x1595419495/Obamas-speech-to-students-causes-public-outcry?view=print NORTH KOREA? WTF! I can’t believe this Horse’s Patootie (F**KFACE) has the unmitigated audacity (BALLS) to compare President Barack Obama to North Korea’s Kim Jong Il who has no empathy, sympathy or mercy for his fellow man. (There are over 20 million North Koreans living a horrible existence. Some starve to death every day. Others are either outright killed by the government or die from the abuse of torture and from being kept in horrible prisons.) Someone ought to string this Horse’s Patootie (F**KFACE) up by his unmitigated audacity (BALLS).

Taliban in Bush Era vs. Horse Soliders: Obama Orders Review of Alleged Slayings
merrie
by merrie  7-13-2009    2
They fought against the Taliban in some of the most unconventional ways - taking on Taliban Tanks while Dostum's guys and CIA were on horse back, calling in JDAM GPS guided weapons from B52s built in the 60's, using a satellite hand held radio. Special Forces, CIA, and the Northern Alliance did what the Russians had failed to do, take over Afghanistan. And they did it in months. Franks and others had wanted to delay 6 months and deploy 50k-100k troops to do what these guys accomplished in a short time before winter came. Under the Franks plan thousands more would have died, on both sides. The Horse Soldiers, as they were called, exhibited the best traits, true American spirit, working closely and respectfully with local leaders like Dostum to adapt to the regional realities. The book contrasts the success in Afghanistan to the difficulties in Iraq, where our policies were less integrated with regional politics and realities.

Economic Credulus
merrie
by merrie  7-11-2009    1
that began on President George W. Bush’s watch. But with Obama’s poll numbers slipping on economic issues, Republicans want to lay the economy at the president’s feet. You know, I’m pretty sure in earlier an time, the Associated Bush-bash would have stuck in a phrase along the lines of ”deeply unpopular economic policies” in the second or third graph, rather than tucking that vague polling data reference way down the bottom, and then just using it to suggest cynical Republican political maneuvering. Never mind. I know Nobel laureate Paul Krugman is demanding more national debt. I have a different idea. Forget a second stimulus. If they haven’t managed to even start paying out the first one. How about a Re-Thinkulus. Since it turns out that subsidizing government hacks instead of cutting them, and pouring money into agenda-pushing wishful thinking projects isn’t doing it, it’s a great opportunity to start doing what they should have done in the first place. . . . .

Conservatives Obstructing key Obama nominees
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  4-5-2009    1
Department of Defense: Sens. Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) announced today that “they are blocking President Barack Obama’s nomination of Ashton Carter as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics.” The senators want assurances that Carter will not “change the criteria” on which the Pentagon considers a refueling tanker contract that could benefit defense contractors in their state. Department of Veterans Affairs: Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) asked the Senate Veterans Affairs committee to delay voting on the “nomination of Tammy Duckworth, an injured Iraq war helicopter pilot, to be an assistant secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs.” Contacted by ThinkProgress, Burr’s Press Secretary, David Ward said that Burr is waiting for the answers to several questions he’s put to the White House and Duckworth, but would not disclose what those questions were.

No big surprise here and the article is interesting, however, what struck me as totally insane was the last paragraph, (which is clipped herein) where in Guerra made his threat after his office had been raided. It's not the threat that got me, it is the fact that he had to camp out with a horse, 3 goats and a rooster. . wtf?

Credit Where It's Due [Mark Steyn]

I trust even now Maureen Dowd is working on a hilarious new column mocking proposed names for the Governor's first grandchild. Perhaps Richard Cohen can just take the week off and they can rerun his insightful analysis comparing the Palin nomination to Caligula making his horse a consul. Whereas we sophisticates all know that if McCain were as smart as Obama he'd have nominated a dead horse to be his consul. No wait...

Horse-Powered Hybrid - Fleethorse Naturcar
a23llenz
by a23llenz  6-2-2008
This has got to be the strangest concept I’ve ever seen! Fleethorse calls their new concept the Naturcar. The hybrid vehicle is literally powered by horses. As passengers sit in the front of the car, a horse is working its legs in the back on a conveyor belt. Electricity motors the belt to get the horse moving, from there on, it’s all horse power.

Why Would Anyone Vote For An "R" Guy?
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  1-24-2008    8
Except those who are well off!! These people invariably, vote for the "R" guy to keep money flowing for the wealthiest and then so arrogantly call this flow, TRICKLE-DOWN ECONOMICS. If you ask me, any phrase with the word TRICK in it, should make you outright suspicious! www.thinkingblue.blogspot.com --- In the 1980’s Ronald Reagan ushered in a new era in American economics as he cut the top tax bracket from 70% down to 50% and then down again to 28%. In order to get support for doing this from the people, and also from politicians, a very crafty set of lies were produced. As David Stockman, then Reagan’s budget director, put it: giving small tax cuts across the board to all brackets was simply a “Trojan Horse” that was used to get approval for the huge top tax bracket cuts. “Trickle-Down” was a term used by Republicans that meant giving tax cuts to the rich. Stockman explains that:.. More Below

Celebrating the Anbar Awakening

by caoilfhionn  7-14-2007
Iraqis and troops dancing in the streets. But the MSM, of course, wouldn't want to cover anything showing success or the Iraqis working with us, or celebrating together.the story out west in Al Anbar is truly a positive one. There are signs that the Anbar's Awakening is spreading to other parts of Iraq. The last sentence is from Licari of Arabia http://mesopotamianmarine.blogspot.com/2007/06/anbar-awakening.html He points out that the MSM is like Iraqis, they will follow the strongest horse. Interesting perspective, although he acknowledges how leftist they are.
