POPSSmartbook debut threatens netbook rise Am I alone in thinking that being always connected to an electronic world, squeezes out all chance of connecting with the real world round about. Perhaps, that's the point?

POPSAnother item on the "Why I no longer do Burning Man" list One of the things that {{Spiritualmonkey}} and I valued about Burning Man, back when we were still doing it, was the emphasis on radical self-reliance . If you needed it, you'd better bring it; if you didn't bring it, you wouldn't have it. There are a number of reasons we no longer go, but the shift away from radical self-reliance is part of it.

POPSThe iPod of e-Readers? Hmm. Not sure about this one. Form factor not very inventive and I've heard Kindle's iPhone app is quite adequate for filling in the gaps when you have short chunks of time to read for a few minutes. I give them credit for going after a fast growing niche, but they've got their work cut out for them IMO.

POPSOffline Gmail Once you turn on this feature, Gmail uses Gears to download a local cache of your mail. As long as you're connected to the network, that cache is synchronized with Gmail's servers. When you lose your connection, Gmail automatically switches to offline mode, and uses the data stored on your computer's hard drive instead of the information sent across the network.
