POPSThe ADHD Advantage: Did the “Hyper” Gene Benefit Our Nomadic Ancestors? "So, in other words, all of us with ADHD need to head back to the desert with a pack of camels loaded up with tents to really make the most of our “disorder” (how dare they call it that when it turns out it’s an evolutionary advantage unless you’re a semi-comatose couch potatoes). Of course half of us will absent-mindedly forget to bring essentials—like water—but we’ll have a lot of fun. Who’s with me?"

POPSTrent Reznor: I Steal Music Too Reznor, never one to refrain from speaking his mind, ends up confronting one of the record label "sales guys" at a meet and greet during his stay in Brisbane. He asks them why his CDs and DVDs cost 6,7, and even 8 more dollars then everybody elses. The sales guy says it's "Because your packaging is a lot more expensive." But, apparently Reznor pays for this out of his cut form the CD, so this is a moot argument. "I know how much the packaging costs -- it costs me, not them, it costs me 83 cents more to have a CD with the colour-changing ink on it. I'm taking the hit on that, not them." And I just said "That's the most insulting thing I've heard. I've garnered a core audience that you feel it's OK to rip off? F--- you'. That's also why you don't see any label people here, 'cos I said 'F--- you people. Stay out of my f---ing show. If you wanna come, pay the ticket like anyone else. F--- you guys". They're thieves.

POPSAre You a "Sex Addict"? If you do think you're a sex addict and you've got cash to spare, there is some good news. For just $5,400, you can spend six weeks making sure you go without sex or erotica Pay heaps to NOT get laid. Wow, I don't think they should be expecting a stampede of people any time soon. *LOL*

POPSBeing labeled as 'Gifted' Undermine Personal Growth? I was quite a timid and shy boy,and later on for that I got called 'gifted' just because of the fact that I was concentrating on homework when other kids were doing what a 'normal' kid should do,that is playing outside. Now several years later just a few days ago I found myself still being called 'gifted' by my high school philosophy teacher, which could have possibly--according to this theory--resulted in my miserable failure today at the monthly tests, and I would say that the praise did do something to my ego which just arrogantly let the classes and real learning slip through. We made fun though,of me,saying things like I failed 'cause I was too talented by the dumb test standard,or 'being illogical is a sign of superb genius' etc. I gotta change my attitude, huh?

POPSBan kept for gay men donating blood The FDA claims that their ban does not discriminate against gay men. The ban is blatantly discriminatory, assuming that all gay men are promiscuous and irresponsible while heterosexuals are not.

POPSFactCheck: Who's really responsible for crisis? "Screwing up takes a great deal of cooperation." D's blame R's and R's blame D's - but those accusations (and I have made them, too, sorry to say) are far too simplistic to help us fix the problem. Here's a list of contributors to the perfect storm.

POPSWill there really be any change?
Would Obama be as bad or worse? Likely not. Just the lesser of two evils or what Ralph Nader calls the "evil of two lessers." No choice to settle for in his judgment. Especially when both candidates support global militarism, backing Israel and the Christian Right against Iran, unilaterally attacking Pakistan, staying in Iraq for the duration, upping the ante in Afghanistan, and risking a dangerous Eurasian confrontation with Russia. Both conventions are over. It's Obama v. McCain, and expect the winner to disappoint like always and on what voters say matter most - ending aggressive wars and addressing long-neglected social needs, made all the worse given capitalism's global crisis and both parties' commitment to privilege. After the Democrat convention ended, author, media activist, critic, and independent filmmaker Danny Schechter wrote: "You won't hear a call for a national crackdown on the corporate crime, fraud, and abuse that, in just the last few years, have robbed trilli

POPSNew Record! Too bad this isn't the kind of record that is wanted. Global warming, fish depletion, toxic rain, fast food nation/countries, terrorism, Enron (who's next?), Darfur, tsunamis.............. I'm gonna go have a cocktail and worry about this tomorrow.

POPSDownward Spiral of Empire <<<The human ego loves to be "right", and some people prefer to watch the world burn with great glee and vitriol. But this is not the time for ego my friends; ego is what got us here. We have been called "lunatics", and now we are being called wise women and men, but it isn't about labels. It's about moving into the next phases of collapse with sensitivity, compassion, and humility, realizing that when people take their own lives in the throes of their own private and our collective collapse, there but for the grace of Something Greater goes any of us. Perhaps if they had been willing to look at the truth, they might have been able to hang around a little longer-or not. Nevertheless, our work is to continue waking ourselves and others up, which may be easier than it was five years ago, and meet everyone with kindness and empathy. It was very painful, yet sometimes a little bit fun to be called a lunatic, but now, the lunatics rest their case>>>

POPS12 Things a Woman Does That Men Find Irresistible 2. Youthfulness. This goes along with #1 because it comes from a playful heart. When I say youthfulness, I don’t necessarily mean age. What I mean is a state of being. Youth is an energy. You can tell a person who’s had it ruff from the world and who has become dead inside, and somebody who is youthful and fresh and has kept their sense of self separate from the negativity of other people’s opinions.

POPSHersh: Surge=Ethnic Cleansing; Worse than Vietnam.
Hersh: "Much worse. Vietnam was a tactical mistake. This is strategic. How do you repair damages with whole cultures? On the home front, though, we'll rationalize it away. Don't worry about that. Again, there's no learning curve. No learning curve at all. We'll be ready to fight another stupid war in another two decades. Hersh on Media: "... back then, they blew it. When you have a guy like Bush who's going to move the infamous Doomsday Clock forward, and he's going to put everybody in jeopardy and he's secretive and he doesn't tell Congress anything and he's inured to what we write. In such a case, we become more important. The First Amendment failed and the American press failed the Constitution. We were jingoistic. And that was a terrible failing. I'm asked the question all the time: What happened to my old paper, the New York Times? And I now say, they stink. They missed it. They missed the biggest story of the time and they're going to have to live with it."

POPSNorth Carolina Pastafarian suspended from high school for wearing eyepatch An amusing, but actually quite interesting story. A kid decides to identify himself as a member of the church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (which is real, if ridiculous), whose adherents are supposed to dress as pirates. When he refuses to remove his eyepatch in school, he's suspended. He claims his freedom of religion was violated ... and who's to say it wasn't?

POPSDemocrat Class Warfare Now ... here's where the frustration comes in. Cavuto asks Senator Klobuchar whether or not she thinks that the 35% of earnings that the richest 1% earn now is enough; whether or not that's fair. He asked this question three times, and three times Klobuchar refused to answer it. She would launch into a discussion of rising tuition rates and health insurance premiums in Minnesota. Now excuse me ... but in what way do comments on rising tuitions and health insurance rates constitute a response to a question as to whether or not a 35% tax rate is high enough for evil high-achievers?

POPSBarack Obama: U.S. Foreign Policy NOT based on Fear
More: A post-post-9/11 strategy must harness the forces of globalization while honestly addressing the growing "perception of unfairness" around the world; must actively promote, not just democracy, but "a world of liberty under law"; and must renew multilateral instruments like the United Nations. In mainstream foreign-policy circles, Barack Obama is seen as the true bearer of this vision. "There are maybe 200 people on the Democratic side who think about foreign policy for a living," as one such figure, himself unaffiliated with a campaign, estimates. "The vast majority have thrown in their lot with Obama." Hillary's circle consists of the senior figures from her husband's term in office — secretary of state Madeleine Albright, national security adviser Sandy Berger and UN ambassador Richard Holbrooke. But drill down into Washington's foreign-policy hives, whether the Carnegie Endowment or the Brookings Institution or Georgetown University, and you'll hit Obama supporters.
