Far more collisions occur when a car turns in front of a bike—which means that bikes need headlights more than they need taillights. As for reflectors and reflective clothing, they only show when you're directly in the beams, so they won't prevent as many accidents as lights and bright colors such as yellow or light green (but not red, which the eye doesn't easily see in the dark). Bluish-white LEDs arrived on the scene a few years ago, but the original red LED color is still the brightest. This makes small, battery-powered LED "blinkies" great as taillights, but marginal as headlights. A better choice is a halogen system. For city riding, it's more important to point it up, where it shines in drivers' eyes, so they see you, rather than down onto the road, which is already illuminated by streetlights and house lights. Look for something that puts out at least ten watts.

Yeshivas, kosher restaurants and thousands of people bought water filters.

She quickly started breathing on her own and was eventually transported to Primary Children's Medical Center. Kano says hearing her breathe was one of the best sounds he's ever heard. He says he's no hero and feels blessed to have been in the right place at the right time to help. Kano credits basic life saving skills he learned in Boy Scouts and in a more advanced class he took in high school. FOX 13's Scott McKane has more about the incident.

"My health is failing and I don't want to leave her alone."… Because she was partially paralyzed, Yvette Harden could get around only with a wheelchair. But staff took away the motorized chair after Harden broke a glass patio door and bent the metal on a gazebo fixture in July 2008. She was given a manual chair that she had to be strapped into because it was too small and made the pain in her legs and back worse, according to Department of Public Health records. She told her mother, "I want to die; I don't want to live without my wheelchair…"

The roof is a butterfly roof for water conservation, a new design vernacular we are seeing more of. The wheels lift the structures well above the meadow, keeping the footprint of each hut to the barest minimum, making for a low-tech and low-impact design. The construction of each identical hut is very simple. It is just an offset steel clad box on a steel platform with a wood deck on top. Unlike a typical mobile home, less than half of the space on each structure is indoor space; outdoor decks comprise 55% of the usable space. While the interiors leave some design issues unsolved, the exteriors are well thought out. They are built of simple, durable and no-maintenance materials – steel, plywood and car-decking. No effort is made to soften this reality. The steel exterior is just allowed to rust naturally. The huts are “grouped as a herd” while each faces a view of the mountains (and away from the other structures), they are also gathered together as a unit.

Johnson is the NBA star turned Sacramento mayor who ran a federally funded nonprofit group employing AmeriCorps volunteers, who were exploited to perform campaign work for Johnson and to provide personal services (car washes, errands) to Johnson and his staff. Walpin filed suit last week to get his job back -- and to defend the integrity and independence
