POPSSarah Palin will headline first-ever Tea Party Convention The Left just can't make her go away. Conservatives love her and it's sad that a woman has to be the leader and give hope for America's future. Is she the Deborah of our day? Rise up, men; it may be our last chance to keep our culture and our Country.

POPSLet's travel back in time (way back in time)... This is astounding. The sheer size of universe, measured in both space and time is simply impossible for me to comprehend. In trying to consider this, I can't help but feel all the more perplexed by the insanity of our world. Wars are fought and hatred persists because of religious beliefs that are based on historical events that supposedly happened over the past few thousand years - yet the Hubble Telescope looks back into space/time at galaxies that have been around for 13.2 billion years. I find these things impossible to reconcile.

POPSMichael Yon Caught Up in The Bureaucratic Wrangling
when a foreign national doesn’t have a round-trip ticket in an age of massive illegal immigration " even if that person is an educated professional with a home and career, and even though Aew has a ten-year visa to the United States. Nevertheless, Aew paid approximately $1,200 for the return ticket, and so now had a return ticket. … While the U.S. Immigration officer named Knapp rifled through all her belongings, Aew sat quietly. She was afraid of this man, who eventually pushed a keyboard to Aew and coerced her into giving up the password to her e-mail address. Officer Knapp read through Aew’s e-mails that were addressed to me, and mine to her. Aew would tell me later that she sat quietly, but “Inside I was crying.” She had been so excited to finally visit America. America, the only country ever to coerce her at the border. This is against everything I know about winning and losing the subtle wars. This is against everything I love about the United States.

POPSEx-Army commander says MoD 'institutionally incapable He cited personal reasons for leaving, but it was widely reported that he was unhappy with the MoD's treatment of British soldiers. He had commanded the 7,750-strong 52 Infantry Brigade in Helmand in 2007/08 and achieved much lower casualty rates in the operation to take Musa Qala than comparable operations by other British brigades, which he attributed to the adoption of different tactics. Maj-Gen Mackay's paper claims that if the military was to be successful in battle, it had to use a more 'behaviourist' approach alongside its traditional 'kinetic' power.

POPSMuslim protesters 'branded British soldiers as rapists and baby killers' at homecoming parade Today seven Muslim men appeared at Luton Magistrates Court charged with using threatening, abusive, insulting words and behaviour which was likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress to others. The seven men refused to stand when district judge Carolyn Mellanby walked in, as is the custom in court. Their lawyers explained that this was because as Muslims they could not make a show of respect to any human being, only to God. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk

POPSThe Decade From HELL
Mark Morford’s New Year's column speaks for many of us. I would even say it speaks for ¾’s of us... but too many, don’t vote. That’s why we had to endure the Reagan Years, Daddy Bush Years and Dubya’s years of HELL. I believe most Americans are Liberal and if they voted America would be in a different position, one of tolerance and peace. If all Liberals voted, incomes would be categorized as LIVING WAGES. Our health care system wouldn’t be gouging, excluding and bankrupting us while those in charge of who gets what, when it come to medical care, get richer. Reckless wars would not happen. 911 wouldn’t have occurred. There’d be no executions because Capital Punishment would be null. No homelessness, no hunger, and best of all no Beck or Limbaugh because their agenda of hate would not be tolerated. But alas, that America does not prevail. Let’s hope the next decade will bring the kind of world, we long for, we who EMPATHIZE and THINK. It can happen, IF YOU WOULD ONLY VOTE!

POPSPapa B's Predictions for 2010 Russia and China know out that if Israel goes to war, everyone gets involved. And we .....we do have 200,000 military close to the Iranian border. With respect to politics, Papa B goes on to hope for some sort of "centrist consensus", but we all know that must be satire. Need some cheering up after ShadowStats' description of an inescapable "financial Armageddon"? Well, Papa B's predictions for the new year definitely won't fit the bill. POPSA remarkably bitter take on the "top ten stories of the last decade" -- in short, we're hosed The last paragraph is worth quoting in full: "The meaninglessness of elections: This is the most embittering revelation of all. Despite the greatest electoral majority since Johnson crushed Goldwater in '64, Obama has betrayed everything he ran on. In every case where he had the opportunity to confront power " in financial bailouts, financial regulation, health care, wars and military spending, utilities and global warming, national surveillance " Obama has sided with the rich and powerful against the interests of the American people. He has probably engendered more cynicism, more disaffection with government than any president since Richard Nixon. It will deal a staggering blow to the hopes of mobilizing masses of people again for a real takeback of government. And he's not even one year into it."

POPSMemory Lane...What was your first computer...lol
Mine was this one. The Tandy 100 was actually a computer made in Japan by Kyocera. All the ROM programs were written by Microsoft, and even a few of them were written by Bill Gates (!) himself ! These programs include a text editor, a telecommunication program, which uses the built-in modem (300 baud), and a rather good version of BASIC (no big surprise there). Kyocera made this computer for three main companies: Tandy, Olivetti (Olivetti M10) and NEC (PC 8201), these computers are the same except the case and some little differences in the programs and a few physical differences. The operating system uses 3130 bytes of the 8 KB RAM. So the 8 KB models (Catalog # 26-3801) didn’t sell very well. But there was also a 24 kb model (Catalog # 26-3802), and one year later, The CMOS CPU (80c85) allows to use the Tandy 100 for 20 hours with only 4 AA batteries (5 days at 4 hours/day or 20 days at 1 hour/day)! Fun fact : its CPU was also used on the Mars Pathfinder probe's Sojourner rove

POPSHow Long Must Terrorism Go On? How Long? As U2 sings, "How long must this go on; how long?" Religion was not established to murder and be blessed. What wayward thinking that will only bring doom to those who kill in the name of God.

POPSJesus Hated War-Why Do Christians Love It So? More from the article below: "A major unasked question is “what should be the role of religion (specifically Christianity) in the starting and perpetuation of politically motivated wars?” If war-makers mix religion and politics by invoking God’s blessings on the cannons and the cannon fodder, shouldn’t the churches, which are supposed to be the consciences of the nation, apply core Christian ethical principles to the war question and refuse to cooperate with the slaughter of fellow children of God? Sadly, for the past 1,700 years, Christian churches have not done so. They have largely failed in their moral obligation to teach and live the Golden Rule and the Sermon on the Mount."

POPSForget Vietnam Analogies - Remember Cambodia and Laos - now Pakistan Pakistan is beginning to look like a combination of the not-so-secret wars in Cambodia and Laos - Those pesky Viet Cong kept slipping into Laos and Cambodia to escape B-52s. Those Taliban - they just won't stay in one place. Didn't the British say the same thing about those pesky Minute Men and Green Mountain boys. Not saying the Taliban are right in any way, it's just that - we are the British to the Afghans. When Afghans unite for their own freedom against the Taliban view of the world, they will win and we can go home. The training up of Afghan army and police also seems a lot like what we did not get right in Vietnam. why? Because, we are simply empowering rule by old tribal war lords. I suspect that the Afghan people want none of the Taliban, us or the tribal war lords. Think about how to help them come to fore might help to bring peace that will last.

POPSThe US Military Is Exhausted These troops refuse deployment for a variety of reasons: some because they ethically oppose the wars, some because they have had a negative experience with the military, and some because they cannot psychologically survive another deployment, having fallen victim to what has been termed "Broken Joe" syndrome. The voices of refusal coming from within the US military send a powerful message that soldiers will not be fodder for an unjust and unnecessary war. And the longer the war in Afghanistan drags on - the more lives that are lost and destroyed - the more resistance we will see coming from within the ranks.

POPSHumans use the technology, not viceversa It is very easy to blame the technology on the worst problems of humanity. But technology is only a catalyst, which accelerates and empowers human activity. New weapons enable more lethal wars, new equipments allow saving more lives in hospitals. If new technologies seem to generate new problems it is because of this effect, which transforms something, rendering it at a greater scale and thus noticeable. For those who think otherwise, they have at their disposal may alternatives, as the Amish lifestyle.
