POPSManaging Distraction more: "Surfing or multitasking may have even more of a place in 21st-century society as strategies of learning," says Jackson. "But going forward, we need to do much more than hopscotch across the web, split-focused and pulled this way and that by choice distractions. We cannot mistake fragmented, diffused attention as avenues of higher thought-or deeper relationships." "Instead, we need to do better at cultivating deep focus, keen awareness and meta-cognitive "executive" attention-the package of skills that is crucial to moving forward in a complex, high-tech age," says Jackson. "If we can 'green' the earth, we can clean up our noisy, interrupt-driven environment, and set the stage for a renaissance of attention for all."

POPSVirtual twins could bring the end of animal research How far are we from building useful and practical virtual twins? There are many sophisticated models of individual organs and systems, such as network models of the metabolic, immune, nervous and circulatory systems; computational fluid dynamics models of blood flow; structural models of the heart and other muscl

POPSBrrrr... Another Rare Occurence-- Great Lakes Freeze Up Again
But, despite the myriad of evidence against the global warming hoax, the media and politicians continue to cling to their junk science. On March 2, a global warming protest in Washington, D.C. was buried by nearly a foot of snow. And a new study warns that the Earth could be in for a 30-year cooling trend. Reality is not cooperating with the network news’ global warming theme, yet reporters are unwilling to even discuss the possibility that the Earth is cooling. Global warming alarmists repeatedly link weather phenomena like tornadoes, hurricanes, ice melt, droughts and wildfires with global warming and the media embrace the stories. Yet, when cities or regions are buried in snow like the city of Chenzhou, China was in February 2008 there wasn’t a word about climate change in the cooling direction. “It is being called China’s Hurricane Katrina,” NBC anchor Brian Williams said on Feb. 4, 2008. “… the month of blizzards that have brought it to a virtual standstill.

POPSFor the first time, everyone can see the whole world "Google Earth has introduced 21 layers of data from various organizations that provide information about specific ocean sites." I find this collaborative work inspiring, in relation to how humanity can unite in creating a win win situation for all.

POPSLive Free or Drown: Floating Utopias Had enough of oppressive government? Want to live a life free of the restraints of traditional land-locked residences? How about a life on the high seas? Of course the federal government is not going to sit idly by while their source of tax income slips away into the night. They will manufacture creative ways to tax you for your impudence. And forget about ocean views, you will be surrounded by other like-minded individuals on their ‘seasteads’ blocking your view. Also, forget about the idea of no rules. No peaceful, respectable community can exist without rules. It may sound like a good idea, but honestly, when mother nature unleashes her power, I’d rather be on terra firma.

POPSWhy fundamentalists unquestioningly support Israel It is a result of a new form of premillenialism (dispensationalism), new to the Church in the 1830s and popularized recently by the "Left Behind" series. It is not historically Christian, and is not held by most Christian denominations today, but has been widely promoted by the Scofield Reference Bible, radio preacher John MacArthur, and the Ryrie Study Bible.

POPSVirtual Books I think this is something that we will see much more of in the future, especially with new and cheaper Virtual reader devices coming out on the market every month.

POPS'Chemical equator' keeps southern air clean The virtual map says it all. Now it means the approach to the solution of the pollution problem needs to be tackled in different ways in each hemisphere. Atmospheric pollution is only one problem. More investigation needs to be done into the nature of oceanic pollution. it did make me wonder of the Nuclear Fusion experiments on Mururoa (Aopuni) and Bikini atolls in French Polynesia last Century. The first nuclear test was conducted on July 2, 1966, code named Aldebaran. France abandoned nuclear testing in the atmosphere in 1974 and moved testing underground in the midst of intense world pressure. A total of 147 underground nuclear tests were conducted at Mururoa and Fangataufa. This practice created much controversy as cracking of the atolls was discovered, A 1979 test conducted at half the usual depth caused a large submarine landslide on the southwest rim of the atoll. Just somehow seemed relevant

POPSMachines will revolutionize education These education machines will also become the home of future artificial intelligence that will complement the teacher’s ability, guiding students through course work, supplementing the teacher’s knowledge and answering simple queries to liberate teachers to concentrate on individuals without the rest of the class sitting idle. To a larger degree than ever before, students will explore information and educate themselves, calling on teachers when they need extra help or special insight. Computers have infinite patience and time and can easily adapt to the skill and knowledge level of individual children without making them feel backward. Children will fearlessly ask questions of a computer that they wouldn’t dare ask in front of their classmates.
