POPSTreating wounded soldiers like $#%$% I'm as much to blame as anyone, but i really am disappointed that the American people site by so idly while the Bush administration screws people so badly. It's great that we "disapprove" of them in polls, but when push comes to shove, we are allowing them to do whatever they want...and the results are truly sickening.

POPSUSS Liberty Conspiracy Unravelling, at last!
"The documents also suggest that the US government, anxious to spare Israel's reputation and preserve its alliance with the US., closed the case with what even some of its participants now say was a hasty and seriously flawed investigation. "In declassifying the most recent and largest batch of materials last June 8, the 40th anniversary of the attack, the NSA, this country's chief US electronic-intelligence-gatherer and code-breaker, acknowledged that the attack had "become the center of considerable controversy and debate." It was not the agency's intention, it said, "to prove or disprove any one set of conclusions, many of which can be drawn from a thorough review of this material," available athttp://www.nsa.gov/liberty . "An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman called the attack a tragic and terrible accident, a case of mistaken identity, for which Israel has officially apologized." Israel also paid reparations of $6.7 million to the injured survivors and the families of those

POPSIs anyone surprised? Meanwhile, back at the homefront, soldiers and their families continue to bear the burden and suffering of the present conflicts, ALONE. Often, those who express their deepest concern and have the highest level of awareness, are NOT in a position of power to do anything about the present debacle, and the coming avalanche of human misery. We veterans and families of military easily discuss our expereinces of betrayal we have with our governmental agencies and organizations. Yet we are somehow silent when we look at or sit next to our neighbor and fellow citizens. We accept our isolation and alienation as our fate as if we will always be misunderstood or disregarded misfits.

POPSUS Army: 'We don't want you now. Get lost' "Jon Soltz, an Iraq war combat veteran who founded the group VoteVets.org, said untreated psychological problems were contributing to the highest military suicide rate in a quarter-century and to growing homelessness among veterans, he said. If such widespread mental problems really existed before people joined the military and saw combat, they would have been uncovered when the recruits were enlisting, Soltz said." This latter point jumps out at me. Did they knowingly recruit those with pre-existing disorders. The army's attitude appears to be: "We didn't break you, you were already broken. You're not our responsibility."

POPSThank You, Veterans! I know there are a number of Veterans here on clipmarks, some with whose opinions I seem to always agree with, others I either don't always agree, or cannot understand where they are coming from. However, I will say, ALL of whom I respect, and am grateful to! So, I just want to say, THANK YOU!

POPSConfessions of an Economic Hit Man Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and other foreign "aid" organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet's natural resources. Their tools included fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization.

POPSOne in Four homeless are Veterans Estimated at 194,254 Veterans are estimated to be homeless, or 25% of the 744,313 homeless on any given night, while they are 11% of the adult population. This must have been a conservative estimate, because I'm sure the homeless love filling out surveys and questionnaires. Of course this is down on the 250,000 20 years ago, but how many of those are still alive? A figure that shocked me is the 11% of the general adult population are Veterans. Does that take into account those on active Duty? How many Americans with 7 figure salaries are expected to serve. Of course they are vital to the ECONOMY. That is being screwed by a prodigal.

POPSVietnam: 40 yearsago: Iraq: 40 years from now: Iran? "Hours after Japan's surrender in World War II, Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh declares the independence of Vietnam from France. The proclamation paraphrased the U.S. Declaration of Independence in declaring, "All men are born equal: the Creator has given us inviolable rights, life, liberty, and happiness!" and was cheered by an enormous crowd gathered in Hanoi's Ba Dinh Square" Lest you forget. There is so much Americans still cannot know of the truth of Vietnam, wiped from the history books. too painful to know the truth even now. Check who was present for the Deceleration of Independence!!!

POPSWounded-troops tally not even close to reality Apparently, the discrepancy comes as a result of time. Troops whose wounds are discovered after they return home are not added to the official tally. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), founder of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force, said the total number of Americans who may have suffered head injuries in combat maybe total as many as 150,000 — about 10% of the 1.5 million troops have served in Iraq “I am wary that the number of brain-injured troops far exceeds the total number reported injured,” he says.

POPSChess Got More Info Than Torture - Steak Dinners Helped Several of the veterans, all men in their 80s and 90s, denounced the controversial techniques. And when the time came for them to accept honors from the Army's Freedom Team Salute, one veteran refused, citing his opposition to the war in Iraq and procedures that have been used at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. "I feel like the military is using us to say, 'We did spooky stuff then, so it's okay to do it now,' " said Arno Mayer, 81, a professor of European history at Princeton University.

POPSFamous Quotes "Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of freedoms of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations." ~James Madison "Yes, we did produce a near perfect Republic. But will they keep it, or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the surest way to destruction." ~Thomas Jefferson "The nobility of the soldier willing to give a life for country and God lies silent and still amidst the broken promises of leaders. Send them not to futile sacrifice on shores so far from home. But keep your word to all that serve that none shall die in vain." ~ R Raitano, fellow medic, Vietnam era "A good end cannot sanctify evil means; nor must we ever do evil that good may come from it." ~Wm. Penn

POPSHow Did Soviet-Style Torture Become ‘Interrogation’? A Senate investigation is underway, but many of the details are surfacing already. His question is only underscored by a 1956 article, “Communist Interrogation,” in The Annals of Neurology and Psychiatry, recently turned up by the Intelligence Science Board, which advises the spy agencies.... he article shows that methods embraced after 2001 were once considered torture that would produce false information.

POPS Rush's $2 Million Dollar Donation But Nobody Cares "We’ve gotten donations in the million-dollar range before, but this is by far the biggest,” James Kallstrom, chairman and co-founder of the 12-year-old charity, said yesterday in a telephone interview. The foundation has awarded more than $27 million in scholarships to children of slain troops and law enforcement officers, Kallstrom said, as well as support money for disabled veterans and their families.”

POPSMore Veterans speak out against war. I WILL SALUTE NO MORE FOREVER As a child I learned to Worship that piece of colored cloth. My family, my school, the movies, TV taught me to believe that fragment of fabric stood for good things. I watched my father, a World War II Army veteran, give homage to that wad of material. As an airman I saluted that banner for the four years I served in the Air Force where I stood ready to help launch Titan Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles on command. Then I became aware that the wonderful things for which that clump of colors is suppose to represent, have not been achieved. I came to know that awful, unlawful, unwise and immoral acts have occurred under the stars and stripes. But I still clung onto the belief and hope that someday, somehow conditions would change and the good things for which that rag is still supposed to stand would yet be realized.

POPSReport puts hidden war costs at $1.6 Trillion A family of four would be paying $16,500 to fund the war from 2002 to 2008, and the report speculates on the war continuing until 2017, where it estimates the expenditure to be $3.5 Trillion, at 46,400, per family. The Bush budget figures are likely to be specific spending allocations, without as much accounting for "co-lateral damage", even when the damage is to US Citizens.

POPSAri Fleischer and his crew are dripping with panic Fleischer and his group Freedom's Watch are not only using the overworked and phony connection between the Iraq war and the 9/11 attacks, but they are aiming at their own Republicans who are fleeing the president's Iraq strategy. They are so panicked that Bush is going to be forced into a corner in September, that they are actually trying to intimidate members of their own party with the same bullshit rhetoric and advertising they used to manipulate and scare voters in the past two elections. Ari and his group should be totally ashamed to exploit our wounded and killed vets in such a crass political game.

POPSWiccan Pentacle Added to Emblems Allowed on Headstones The pentacle has been added to 38 symbols the VA already permits on gravestones. They include commonly recognized symbols for Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism, as well as those for smaller religions such as Sufism Reoriented, Eckiankar and the Japanese faith Seicho-No-Ie. VA-issued headstones, markers and plaques can be used in any cemetery, whether it is a national one such as Arlington or a private burial ground like that on Circle Sanctuary's property. Wicca is a nature-based religion based on respect for the earth, nature and the cycle of the seasons. Variations of the pentacle not accepted by Wiccans have been used in horror movies as a sign of the devil.
