Future Designer Laptop - ROLLTOP
merrie
by merrie  10-17-2009    4
The device of the flexible display allows a new concept in notebook design growing out of the traditional bookformed laptop into unfurling and convolving portable computer. By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor. On top of everything else all computer utilities from power supply through the holding belt to an interactive pen are integrated in Rolltop. This is really an all-in-one gadget. All-Aboard America: ObamaCare's Big Balloon Ride
merrie
by merrie  10-16-2009
Hullabaloo: “We were working on an experimental craft. I call it the 3D-LAV, a low altitude-vehicle for people to pull out of their garages and hover over traffic for about 50 to 100 feet. It’s in the very early stages of the invention. But this little guy decided to kept going inside the utility compartment underneath. So anyway, this little guy got inside of it. I thought he did, anyway … “ OK, that’s not exactly how Digby put it. (With a nod to Fausta, who suggested in an email that Obama may want to pump some helium into his own ratings. She notes the Weather Channel is the only one he doesn’t dominate . Maybe, but it looks like some of the gas is coming out.)

So, how evil is Facebook, really?
enbar
by enbar  1-20-2008    3
I use Facebook every day now. I'm pretty well hooked. But this article, which talks about the intellectual pedigree (Girard), political sympathies ("Thatcherite") and financial connections (the CIA) of its board, gives me the creeps in a big way.

Sponsored search results lead to malware
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  10-8-2009
If you're not sure, verify the URL. Microsoft and Google have large payrolls, but the search giants don't employ literal armies to review ad submissions. If you're at all suspicious of an ad's legitimacy, check the URL via a service such as hpHosts, which tracks domain names that researchers have reported as malicious. Help vendors by reporting malicious advertisers. To report bogus ads on Google, e-mail security at google.com. This is likely to be more effective than reporting the site via the search giant's online form. If you discover malware purveyors advertising in Bing's results, e-mail secure at microsoft.com. Yahoo, however, offers only a Security Phishing Report Form.

"Final nail in Trans Texas Corridor's coffin"
kris_tea
by kris_tea  10-6-2009
"Earlier this year, state officials announced the Trans Texas Corridor was essentially dead, in large part because of public outrage and a backlash from state legislators who felt the transportation department had overstepped its bounds. But despite that announcement, the planning process for the Trans Texas Corridor continued behind the scenes."

FDR: electric Power and Health Reform
abailart
by abailart  9-24-2009    1
<<<The political anger was fierce and unrelenting at this and other Roosevelt initiatives. According to New Deal historian William Edward Leuchtenberg, one US Senator compared the President to the beast of the Apocalypse, "who sets his slimy mark on everything." One enraged citizen wrote to FDR, "If you were a good and honest man, Jesus Christ would not have crippled you." The REA public option survived the frenzy. By the time the juice reached our neighborhood, more than 90 percent of American farms were electrified, nearly all of them by rural electric coops. At the worst of the storm against Roosevelt's initiatives, it seemed there were no limits to incivility. >>>

A Free Utility that Really Does Speed Up Firefox
merrie
by merrie  9-25-2009    3
I tested it out on my personal laptop and it worked like a charm. After running SpeedyFox my version, of Firefox definitely loads quicker. However I was unable to assess whether there was any improvement in dealing with browsing history or with cookies - I'm not even sure how I would go about measuring that. But the improvement in loading speed alone more than justifies the use of the product. I should say that my version of Firefox was an excellent candidate for improvement as my profile was very old. Users with newer profiles are unlikely to see the same sort of improvement I experienced. Usage of SpeedyFox couldn't be simpler. The program doesn't require installing so all you need do is download and run the executable. You will then see the following screen. Unless you are using the portable version of Firefox you will normally just accept the default setting for your profile. Then click the " Speed Up My Firefox" button and you're done.

Unruly To Be Lessoned In Green
ljsdesign

I am currently stuck ( a problem I am hoping to alleviate before winter) with the now Infamous Unitil Electric company. If you have not heard , they were the one's whose clients were without power for 14 days during last year's ice storm. This company has never spent a dime in emergency planning( no joke) or testing despite an annual raise in rates , until this year. Yet the top 10 on the board are pulling in 6 figure salary's. With company's like this around how can you afford not to go green?

Live In South Florida - Only Rich Need Apply
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  9-5-2009    1
Reading this article, made me conclude that So Florida has a plan to rid itself of working class dwellers. OMG, it's easy, raise taxes, insurance, utilities, everything under the tropical sun to a level that only well-off families can afford. I swear So. Florida’s leaders… want to rid paradise of commoners, so there’s more room for the blue-blooded beautiful people with fat wallets. Sound too farfetched, too birther, too death panel, too teabagger, too (oh what the heck) conspiracy theorist? Probably, and we sure as hell don't need another one of those nut-ball, butt-ball townhall myths floating around. But it’s strange to figure out why the cost of living in paradise is becoming beyond most people’s shallow pockets. I lived there for 19 years and was able to make ends meet. Today that’s not a can do. I’m glad I got the hell out while the gettin was good. But maybe there’s a silver lining here, because it’s only the filthy rich who will monetarily be able to withstand the BIG HIT.
