POPSKashmir - Journey To Freedom In a rare look at the region, Udi Aloni filmed his protagonists as they launched their new struggle. Finally refused re-entry by the Indian government, Aloni was forced to tell the rest of this story far from the land and people he had come to admire.

POPSGoogle to compete with Wikipedia? Very interesting. By highlighting the author of an article, or "knol", there's a clear and compelling reason to contribute articles of value. Google's internal Knol likely creates a meritocracy, where it's important and valuable to be the person who wrote the authoritative knol on a specific technical topic. Compared with Wikipedia, where most contributions are fueled by a altruistic need to create or improve articles, I can see the motives for this, but it also seems as though this would create lots of stale pages, jockeying for 'authoritative' position, and generally stifle collaboration. Interesting - but I don't think it's a wikipedia killer.

POPSCOLLECTIVE PUNISHEMENT FOR FAMILIES Not ever do I support guerrilla war fare and suicide bombings to keep the cause alive and harm the occupier, but I certainly will not support Israels lashing out with its own shock and awe and indiscriminate killings of civilians. The destruction of homes and shelters for Palestinian families associated with a militant has and will not ever be right.

POPSBritish double standards on WMD and terrorists The recebnt revelations about British double standards on the question of WMD in the Middle East also highlights other double standards as well -- denouncing Hamas as "terrorists", but recognising the UDI by the UCK (Kosovo Liberation Army).

POPSKosovo UDI This reminds me of nothing so much as Ian Smiths unilateral declaration of independence in Rhodesia on 11 November 1965 - right down to Beethoven's Ode to Joy, which was adopted as the national anthem of Smith's Rhodesia. And the assurances of ethnic justice can be trusted just as much as Smtih's.

POPSYou can't estimate a month I'm sitting on exactly this problem right now. My "hours" estimate was about 60, so I figured a month worth of ETA, given that I'm not full-time on the one project.... Of course, in a month's time, a lot of other stuff can come up...

POPSMarissa Mayer's typical work schedule This is kinda fun. If you're sending email to Marissa, do not expect a response until late at night, apparently. She won't tell what her favorite TV shows are but I like the pics of her favorite books, desserts, and massage rooms (with Google Massage Robots from the future?) at the end.
