US Town Utilizes Local Currency
katsteevns
by katsteevns  12-29-2009    4
Let’s say you spend a dollar with Chatham Wireless. That’s a local Internet service provider. They will use part of that dollar to pay their folks. They live here. Part of it may go to their bookkeeper. Part might go to an advertisement in our local media. They might use their money to get a massage, lunch at Angelina’s Kitchen, or dinner at the General Store Cafe. Part of that dollar might go to buy groceries at Chatham Marketplace which will then buy produce from the local farmer, who will then go buy some Internet access from Chatham Wireless. The longer that dollar stays in our community, the more enriched we become.

THE DEADLIEST CARD GAME IN TOWN
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  11-29-2009
but they have joined the right’s sycophants and willingly do the bidding of the LOBBY FIRMS in order to receive the dirty money (more like blood money) these cut-throats will give them (to turn a blind eye) in the form of campaign contributions. A shell game of sorts, where the suckers, in many instances, have no idea of what is going on and how it negatively affects their well-being. It's a sad game that cannot be won by anyone who falls into a category called LOW-INCOME. The banks and credit card companies’ makeup all the rules and they are always in their favor. NO ONE, can get out of the traps they set, while they siphon off any earnings said suckers have given their blood, sweat and tears to acquire. It should be a crime because it is criminal but it is not. Watch, learn and weep for those who get snared in THE DEADLIEST CARD GAME IN TOWN, where there is no place to turn for help. The Growing Backlash Against Overparenting
Nerfzilla
by Nerfzilla  11-23-2009    1
The mayor of a Connecticut town agreed to chop down three hickory trees on one block after a woman worried that a stray nut might drop into her new swimming pool, where her nut-allergic grandson occasionally swam. A Texas school required parents wanting to help with the second-grade holiday party to have a background check first. Schools auctioned off the right to cut the carpool line and drop a child directly in front of the building — a spot that in other settings is known as handicapped parking. We were so obsessed with our kids' success that parenting turned into a form of product development. Parents demanded that nursery schools offer Mandarin, since it's never too soon to prepare for the competition of a global economy. High school teachers received irate text messages from parents protesting an exam grade before class was even over; college deans described freshmen as "crispies," who arrived at college already burned out, and "teacups," who seemed ready to break at the tiniest

Was Democrats’ Health Care Strategy Written In Federal Prison?

He also founded its predecessor, Illinois Public Action, in which Ms. Schakowsky served as Program Director. He runs a political consulting firm, the Strategic Consulting Group, which lists ACORN and the SEIU among its clients and which made $541,000 working for disgraced former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich. Creamer resigned from Citizen Action/Illinois after the FBI began investigating him for bank fraud and tax evasion at Illinois Public Action. He was convicted in 2006 and sentenced to five months in federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, plus eleven months of house arrest. While in prison"or “forced sabbatical,” he called it"Creamer wrote a lengthy political manual, Listen to Your Mother: Stand Up Straight! How Progressives Can Win (Seven Locks Press, 2007). The book was endorsed by leading Democrats and their allies, including SEIU boss Andy Stern"the most frequent visitor thus far to the Obama White House"and chief Obama strategist David Axelrod, who noted

Marines Launch New Offensive in Afghanistan's Helmand Province
merrie
by merrie  12-4-2009    1
So far, Wetterauer said, three insurgents have been killed after he said they were caught placing bombs in a road. The Marine units dropped into two areas -- one just north of the once-bustling city of Now Zad and the small town further north called Kenjake Sofla. Both are places where Marines believe several Taliban insurgents operate. Initially, the Marines have faced little opposition, Wetterauer said. For the last four years, Marines and British forces have battled the Taliban in the area. Because of the fighting, Now Zad, the second-largest city in Helmand Province, which once had a population of 30,000, has been reduced to a ghost town. Only members of the Taliban and their sympathizers remain. In building defenses against the Marines, Taliban fighters have planted thousands of homemade bombs and dug in positions throughout the valley at the foot of the craggy Tangee Mountains.
