POPSMan "Locked In" for 23 Years I do not want to even attempt to imagine what that would be like. I saw "The Bell and the Butterfly." Ultimatly, no thank you - if the only hope was that many years later I may be able to communicate blinking I don't want to stick around. What is wonderful is that this family chose to keep trying, assuming that is what the man wanted. Make sure you tell your loved ones what you would want to have happen in instances such as this(and draft documents!). They will have stress enough without having to guess what you want.

POPSTouch Screen Back in 1998/99, myself and a co-worker were brainstorming on computing ideas. We came up with an idea for a computer screen that would act like a kiosk of sorts, for the elderly. Realizing that there was a need to keep in touch and up to date with technology, it 'felt right' to bring something like touch screen for the elderly or those that could not type, into age (pun intended). Our idea was to set up these kiosk style monitors in senior assisted/non-assisted homes; on campus clubhouses, etc so anyone could send email and play a few games. Easy stuff that would not be intimidating or difficult to learn. Idea blown away when presented to our employer as not 'marketable enough.' About 3 weeks ago, I walked into Sam's Club; the computer section. A round table was set up with HP Touchscreen monitors. Curios, I walked over to inspect and could not get close enough except to watch. Persons much older than myself standing around the table, playing games by touching the scre

POPS Future Designer Laptop - ROLLTOP The device of the flexible display allows a new concept in notebook design growing out of the traditional bookformed laptop into unfurling and convolving portable computer. By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor. On top of everything else all computer utilities from power supply through the holding belt to an interactive pen are integrated in Rolltop. This is really an all-in-one gadget. POPSJo Public is making money designing apps. Here's a squeaky clean iphone app that took Kostas Eleftheriou a week to make and so far has netted him 40K. It really doesn't do anything but one cool effect. New java based userfriendly WYSWYG software is currently in development that can pare that one week timeframe into 1 day. The upside is this software develops across multiple platforms, not just iphone friendly apps. See http://www.xpressmo.com for more details.

POPSBan Touchscreen Voting The past several election cycles have demonstrated that electronic voting systems present a serious threat to the integrity of our elections. Touchscreen machines (DRE's) have proven to be unreliable and insecure for the counting and recording of votes. Further, touchscreens repeatedly malfunction during elections, causing long lines and disenfranchising thousands of voters. And touchscreens provide no opportunity to conduct a meaningful recount or audit of an election. As a result, voters throughout the country have lost confidence in the accuracy of reported electoral outcomes in jurisdictions using touchscreens. More than a century ago, the United States Supreme Court stated in the case of Yick Wo v. Hopkins, 118 U.S. 356, 370 (1886), that the right to vote is "a fundamental political right" which is "preservative of all rights." The Holt Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act is a critical measure for helping to protect this most basic right.

POPSThe sink faucet for geeks.... Is nothing sacred anymore? My first response to this was, "you've got to be kidding me, how pointless"... But then the more I thought about it, the more I thought it was quite genius! If you think about it, most people spend a decent amount of time in front of their faucet throughout the day. Wether brushing your teeth, shaving or washing your hands you can now check email or the weather while doing any of those without bringing your laptop with. Now if they could just make it know when I want to brush my teeth vs wash my hands so I never have to adjust the temperature at all! Check out the source for a vid, though it's not english you still get to see it in action.
