POPSTed Kennedy Dies at 77 Everyone has forgotten about Mary Jo Kopeckne...if anyone else had been driving the car, they would have been imprisoned for leaving the scene, DUI and failure to notify authorities of an accident involving a fatality etc etc

POPS Ted Kennedy The speculation and manuevering will fire up again after a discreet interval. Joe. Patches. Caroline … not good enough for New York, but this is Massachusetts. Any number of Kennedy third-stringers. All of them have feet of clay, not that was ever an obstacle to Kennedys until recently. Hey, don’t be shy, Deval Patrick. The Kennedys never were. Here’s a great chance to appoint yourself out of that mess in Massachusetts … though re-election might be problematic. Grease it with the Legislature right and maybe they’ll let you appoint yourself. Despite his shameful performance re the Iraq war … when he viciously disparaged a wartime president and sought to undercut a vital national security interest with troops fighting and dying in the field … he remained able to work across the aisle and had significantly better political skills than most in his party. When he called, presidents of both parties picked up the phone. The great tragedy today in the Bay State is that John Kerry,

POPSLiving pictures formed by 1000s of returning U.S. soldiers in WWI Images. Englishman Arthur S Mole and his American colleague John D Thomas took these incredible pictures of thousands of soldiers forming icons of American history. Arthur's great nephew Joseph Mole, 70, says: "In the picture of the Statue of Liberty there are 18,000 men: 12,000 of them in the torch alone, but just 17 at the base. The men at the top of the picture are actually half a mile away from the men at the bottom"

POPSDesign Democracy: Picking up Buckminster Fuller's Torch? Neat story. On the surface, it seems like a basic review of a young company's efforts to launch a collaborative design/user customization manufacturing program. However, its much richer and interesting; I love the concept of humanitarian design and maybe this generation of designers and DIYers will emulate Fuller's spirit.

POPS Forgotten Liberty, The Spirit of Resistance “when the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.” (Jefferson again). If your Congressman or Senator is holding a town hall meeting near you, grab a torch and pitchfork (metaphorically speaking of course) and go! Let them know how you really feel. We are in the majority on this issue. Don’t be scared to get up to the microphone, and let them have it, “Be not intimidated…nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties…” (John Adams). Arm yourselves with knowledge and facts, and be a little forceful about it because, “what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance?” (Thomas Jefferson-He has so many good quotes). We need to continue to resist this assault on our Constitution and our liberty. We need to let our lawmakers know that we are not going to take this quietly.

POPSThe Statue of Liberty calls bullshit on the "White, Christian Nation" crap Some people think that the end of "white" Christian hegemony in this country is a disaster . They think that this country was founded for and by white Christians and their descendants. Lady Liberty, out in the harbor of the city of my birth, told this son of immigrants that was a racist lie since I could read. Was a time when Italians & Irish were dirty, savage, Catholic semi-humans who could never be "real Americans". Go watch Gangs of New York . My father is from the Philippines, my mother's family is from Ireland. I was born in Brooklyn, and I'm a Zen practioner who lives in California. I am as American as it gets, baby. Diversity breeds strength. Inbreeding breeds weakness and insanity. Just look at European aristocrats. I am not more American than a white Christian. But assert I any LESS American... @ that point, I'm more NEW YORK than I am Zen.

POPSSTATUE OF LIBERTY PICTURES: Rare Views, Inside and Out The torch has been off-limits to visitors since the "Black Tom" explosion of July 30, 1916. Debris from the attack on U.S. ammunition supplies on nearby—and long since subsumed by landfill—Black Tom Island, New Jersey, pierced the statue. Another attack—the terrorist assault on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001—prompted the full closure of Liberty Island, which was reopened a hundred days later. The Statue of Liberty would reopen in 2004, and the reopening of the crown will complete the process on the Fourth of July, 2009.

POPSCommunities print their own currency to keep cash flowing Its an attempt to keep money within the local community, which works to help the merchants and the local citizenry. About a dozen communities have local currencies. The idea came about during the depression and is generally favored by local government. The one caveat is that the currency cannot claim to be or be perceived to be U.S. currency. U.S. Treasury agents feel that von Nothaus and others crossed this line when they stamped coins (Liberty Dollar) instead of paper ‘money’. The U.S. Department of Justice has charged the men with fraud and conspiracy. In a bill of indictment filed when they were arrested, the word "counterfeit" never appears. Authorities say the coins too closely resemble actually US currency by using the dollar sign, burning torch and crowned head. Also troublesome is the inclusion on some coins of the words "Trust in God".

POPS Hail To The Chief He kept the honor of the Oval Office. He kept us safe. "When the goodman mends his armor, And trims his helmet's plume; When the goodwife's shuttle merrily Goes flashing through the loom; With weeping and with laughter Still is the story told, How well Horatius kept the bridge In the brave days of old." Hail to the Chief
