POPSHow Advertising Manipulates Our “Caveman” Brains (& How to Resist) Fortunately, there are ways to go about PROOFING YOUR BRAIN. 1. Change your mindset to “postmore” by challenging culture’s ingrained assumption that “more” of everything is automatically better. 2. Grow your gratitude. Our poor, starved, frozen ancestors would cry tears of joy if they suddenly landed in our culture of abundance. Fostering our appreciation of this bounty can also block the consumerist “cool” pressure to deride so many of our fine, workable possessions as “so last year”. 3. Be enough. We’re constantly told that we aren’t rich enough, glam enough, cool enough, networked enough, etc. This has a powerful insidious effect on our primitive, socially competitive brain circuits. It’s like a toxic substance that turns rational brains into needy toddlers wanting “more, more, more!

POPSChild Abuse in Sickening Detail. Death a relief Having read the details of this horrific child abuse, which is beyond anything I've previously read, I'm left incapable of rational thought. Recently there was a sex/cult event in Texas. In comparison with this it was a non-event. This has been kept hushed up. Why? Is it because of the involvement of a Haredi Orthodox Rabbi as the prime torturer? Recently another child abuser in Australia was given safe haven in Israel. Is it opportune while the pope seeks forgiveness in the USA, that abuse of children that would put the Nazis to shame would see the light of day in the 'free and fair' USA media. Is there a word on this atrocity? What society allowed this to happen? This was no overnight phenomenon. What religion sees it as creed to torture children beyond what would be acceptable to the worst criminal or terrorist? How sick is the society?

POPSEmergency "grab-n-go" kit contents This is one of the better "go-kit" lists I've found. I live ten minutes downwind of a major nuclear plant, so I need something like this. Download the PDF at http://snipurl.com/1845p. Other useful links: The Red Cross sells a "deluxe" preparedness kit for $65 which is supposed to keep an adult going for three days. Link It's a little creepy, but I've seen www.SurvivorMall.com recommended Survivor Mall also hosts an extensive list of informational pamphlets for free. Link

POPSBaby Einstein videos-- more harm than good? Interesting read- i never used this videos to help with language devp. i used them more as a break for me, and as a stimulating activity for my daughter. i thought the colors and movement were keeping her attention-- i didn't think she'd learn to speak faster from them-- however, interestingly, this article is saying it does the opposite.

POPSMissing Kids Come in all Colors Everything from runaway brides to vacationing coeds to murdered military moms to snatched up toddlers and housewives. Be they rich, poor, rural, suburban or city, missing white women and white teens are valued. They are cherished. When violence befalls them it is “news”. It is a surprise that it happened to them—where they live. Theirs are the tragedies that must be covered. They are the victimized who must be championed. Their families are the ones deserving of justice and closure. Their families cannot be left to cope alone. They are the lost that must be found. Nancy Grace doesn’t have an aneurysm on camera when LaToya goes missing. Dan Abrams doesn’t get outraged when Marcus or Jamar vanishes. Katie Couric and Barabara Walters don’t break down in tears when kids from South Central are murdered.

POPScrocs-- the dumbest shoe on earth can't we just agree to NOT wear these stupid shoes-- and if nothing else, not put our young toddlers in them-- it's a trend i've held strong on NOT being a part of. I really think these shoes are not safe, rather ugly.. and really just a dumb parenting decision.

POPSDeath by Sewage Two years ago UN aid agencies warned that this could happen, but no new sewage treatment facility was built to handle the extreme overload of waste. Why was this? Terrorist activities (Palestinian and Israeli) in the area? Foreign aid suspension when Hamas came to power? Disregard for the people whose health and livelihoods were in danger from the sewage? A terrible tragedy in itself, made worse by the fact that it was foreseen yet was not averted.

POPSToo Much TV "The landscape has shifted dramatically since 1961, when experts say most children did not watch TV until they were nearly 3 years old. Now, studies suggest that children start watching TV or videos by the time they're 9 months old, on average."

POPSIsrael delays treatment for Gaza toddlers Testimony of a Palestinian father whose sons have cystic fibrosis. They have to go to a hospital in Jersusalem once every month to get them treatment, but Israel is giving them a hard time by refusing to give the parents a permit to go to Jerusalem. By the way, earlier this father had another son die due to CF because the Israeli government would not let him travel to the West Bank to get a CT scan.

POPSReflections on James Dobson, child-rearing, and U.S. political discourse For some time, Dr. Dobson has been known for his insistence that a key component of parents' responsibility is the inflicting of controlled violence on their children in order to make them obedient, virtuous, and "God-fearing." Here a blogger considers links between Dobson's typical language of war, as pertinent to child-rearing, marriage and homosexuality, and foreign policy.

POPSBabies killed in U.S military shooting I'm sure this one might ruffle some feathers. However there is a question that needs to be asked. If these terrorist were in the US and ran into a building in, lets say, Podunk Iowa. Would we blow up the building regardless of who was in it? Blow is a response from the article forum. This is typical of the liberal manipulative media reporting..... They blamed the U.S. for killing the babies... Shouldn't the headline be: "Terrorists Use Babies as Human Shields" I guess it's ok to kill civilians if they are used as shields, especially if they are Iraqis. By God we are going to free and democratize these people even if we have to kill them to do it. I realize innocent people die in war, everyone understands that. But bowing up buildings in populated areas? Winning hearts and minds?
