POPSDetroit Pistons Org. Gives Help To Military Families "There is a lot of support for families where someone is deployed, but service people at home don't get the same help," Schroeder said. "We are here to help them." The food distribution was in conjunction with the Pistons Military Salute to be held at 7:30 tonight during the game against the Charlotte Bobcats at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Pistons are to salute those who have served or are serving in all branches of the U.S. military. Current members or veterans are to receive free tickets while their families can go to the game for $11 a person. In March, the Pistons raised more than $450,000 during the 17-hour 2009 Pistons Care Marathon in support of Feed The Children. Since the telethon, the organization has distributed 25,000 aid boxes throughout the state, including Lansing, Pontiac, Benton Harbor and Kalamazoo.

POPSWhen it comes to football, the couch is king! I'm a football junkie - a die-hard fan of the NY Giants. But you couldn't pay me to give up my couch to go to the game. Whether it's the drunk, loud fans, the relatively uncomfortable seats, the cold weather, the traffic getting in and out of the stadium, the fact that there are so many breaks in the action, the cost of the tickets, or the picture on my hi-def tv, there are just so many reasons i'd rather watch on my couch than go to the game. Sounds like i'm not the only one who feels this way and the league is concerned...

POPSBrits Could Be Given a Personal 'Carbon Allowance' If their "carbon account" hits zero, they would have to pay to get more credits. Those who are frugal with their carbon usage will be able to sell their unused credits and make a profit. Lord Smith will call for the scheme to be part of a "Green New Deal" to be introduced within 20 years when he addresses the agency's annual conference on Monday. An Environment Agency spokesman said only those with "extravagant lifestyles" would be affected by the carbon allowances. He said: "A lot of people who cycle will get money back. It will probably only be bankers and those with extravagant lifestyles who would lose out." However, some have criticised the move as "Orwellian" and say it will have a detrimental impact on business. Ruth Lea, an economist from Arbuthnot Banking Group, told the Daily Mail: "This is all about control of the individual and you begin to wonder whether this is what the green agenda has always been about. It's Orwellian.

It says as much about those who trained and managed them and the courts in their jurisdictions as it does about the officers with misplaced sense of being word police. Question is what would happen if one of these officers got stopped in London - England, not Ohio; could they be cited for refusing to speak the Queen's English?

At the prow - prominent and proud like the twin towers themselves - is a 19-foot-long bow stem, forged from 7.5 tons of Trade Center steel. Up from its homeport in Norfolk, Va., the ship will begin its New York odyssey with entry into the harbor about 7:30 this morning. At 8, there will be a 21-gun salute at Ground Zero. Then the New York will sail up the Hudson to the George Washington Bridge, turn around about 9:30 and dock at Pier 88, near 48th St. Along the route, thousands of New Yorkers are expected to greet their namesake. Prominent will be cops, firefighters and other responders, people who survived the conflagration and survivors of those who did not - brave souls to whom the ship is a floating memorial. For the living heroes and for 9/11 families, special privileges are due. They will have exclusive onboard visiting hours, a private reception and tickets to the shipboard commissioning ceremony Saturday.
