by egoldstein  9-7-2009    1
Though i'm no scientist - and i'd certainly word it a bit differently - i share these sentiments about twitter. To be clear, I think there are many positive aspects of twitter too, but this is certainly one of my criticisms/concerns. I recommend reading the rest of this article...it's thought provoking and insightful about how different sources of entertainment and communication affect us (Twitter, Facebook, video games, etc.)

syncopath
by syncopath  7-21-2009    1
it is a controversial document. some call it "BBC leftist marxist yellow journalism" .. while other voices praise it as a rare window unto "what's really going on" which is mainly "veiled" from the common eye. i didn't watch all the series but it seems that some thought provoking "images" of "us" may well be hidden here .. (in a up or sub manner .. -))

All you need is love
egoldstein
by egoldstein  5-12-2009
I found this article via @kmcolo’s clip here http://amplify.com/u/2mw. A really interesting piece by David Brooks in the NY Times chronicling the lives of 268 men starting when they entered Harvard University in the 1930s, weaving together aspects of their lives to make clear that despite having everything one could seemingly need to succeed in life, the men in this group followed very different paths, some happy and successful, but many that were not . As i read the article, these two lines really jumped out at me as profound and thought provoking…

Disgusted With Obama and the Democrats? - Bill Maher Says It All!
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  5-25-2009    5
The Way Obama is acting, I am starting to feel like I did when the screwball FAR RELIGIOUS RIGHT AND NEOCONS were in power... I know we are going to get the REPS back in control again... they know how to SCAREMONGER and make the silly-ass, scaredy-cat people really SCARED. (scaremonger (n.) A person who invents threats to themselves and others everywhere. A form of critic looking for a lucky break to be proven right.{CHENEY} Typically praises other scaremongers, 1984, hates the government, organised religion and trading systems while freely using the produce of any. Quite narrow minded and insecure, but will attract a lot of sheep. .{CHENEY} from urban dictionary) Can you believe all this crap coming out of Cheney has made his poll numbers jump to 37... GOOD GOD, THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE! Anyway, I was watching Bill Maher "Real Time" show the other day and it was a good one... He hits the nail on the head so many times. I decided to blog it. http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com

Picture comparison between Nazi treatment of Jews, and Israeli treatment of Palestinians.

Thought provoking, but not sure I agree with all the comparisons. What do you think? I saw the link in a comment on Digg: "Palestinian children shot directly in the head by IDF" - http://bit.ly/14wxh which is in regards to this article in The Telegraph: "Bullets in the brain, shrapnel in the spine: the terrible injuries suffered by children of Gaza" Doctors at a hospital near Gaza are almost overwhelmed by the number of Palestinian children needing treatment for bullet wounds to their heads. - http://bit.ly/oSJ5

"Occupation 101" [2006 Israel/Palestine Documentary]
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  1-12-2009    3
This is what the American Taxpayer foots the bill for to the tune of $2-3 BILLION EVERY YEAR. This is what Jimmy Carter, The Rev. Desmond Tutu, and people who were there mean when they say "Israel's 40-year-plus military occupation of Palestinian lands most closely resembles Aparthed South Africa". This is what the rest of the world sees, and why they wonder why the American public doesn't see things the same way. This is what the government is buying with our tax dollars, America. Yours and mine. I think it behooves you to take a closer look at what you're paying for. And maybe start asking questions about why we never hear this point of view regarding what we're paying for. The full movie is available online.

False Memory Syndrome
balthazarus
by balthazarus  12-17-2008    4
there is the danger of false memory syndrome, defined by the Royal College of Psychiatrists as the recollection of an event that did not occur, but which the individual subsequently strongly believes. Some therapists think that adults who were abused as children but cannot recall the incident can be helped to "recover" their memory. The RCP disputes this, stating that it leads to the creation of false memories: "The evidence does not support the view that memory enhancement techniques actually enhance memory… these are powerful and dangerous methods of persuasion." Interesting reading and thought provoking. Can we trust, that which seems so true... meaning our own mind?
