POPSTop Ten Forecasts for 2009 & Beyond Each year since 1985, the editors of THE FUTURIST have selected the most thought-provoking ideas and forecasts appearing in the magazine to go into our annual Outlook report. Over the years, Outlook has spotlighted the emergence of such epochal developments as the Internet, virtual reality, and the end of the Cold War. All of these forecasts plus dozens more were included in the report that scanned the best writing and research from THE FUTURIST magazine over the course of the previous year. The Society hopes this report, covering developments in business and economics, demography, energy, the environment, health and medicine, resources, society and values, and technology, will assist its readers in preparing for the challenges and opportunities in 2009 and beyond.

POPSlevitated.net/daily: awesome interactive art This site is filled to the brim with interesting flash experiments by Jared Tarbell. The code for each game is also downloadable, which is a good thing for anyone learning Flash MX! My personal favourite would have to be orbiting networks, where you create a stylised solar system. Other tests involve the movement of underwater creature, stylised lines, one very groovy keyboard and some colourful bugs (hey, kids: it's just like Spore, minus the evil DRM!). Check it out at www.levitated.net/daily

POPS Obama v. McCain Challenge A rather thought provoking thought being addressed in this video. Striking how little difference there truly is between the positions of the two main Presidential candidates on somne rather serious issues.

POPSDawkin I, unlike the majority of ordinary people ,have read much of Professor Dawkins thought provoking thesis. With rare clarity, I can also understand why the religious masses shiver at his observations. What Dawkins has made me do is stop looking for answers in the mythical heavens, but within the hearts and aspirations of Man. The true question is surely what is GOOD and what is EVIL? Good is easy to define; the music of Mozart, the words of Shakespeare and Goethe, the actions of the Red Cross and its’ workers. Evil is that which brainwashes children into beliefs that have no substance, blind obedience to mystical books written by genius writers over two millennia ago, and not allowing children to grow with the human instinct of inquisition. I have no doubt that if we do not challenge the evil amongst us, humanity will fail

POPSPANGEA DAY A WONDERFUL SUCCESS It was a wonderful program--to see excerpts or a replay see the link above--WELL WORTH THE TIME! "We have the capacity and tendency to separate 'us' from 'them.' Once established, we're more tolerant to those we call 'us' and more brutal toward 'them.' But increasingly, science shows there's no limit to who we define as 'us.' Eventually, someday, there might not be any more 'thems.'" - Psychologist Robert Kurzban "How can films change the world? They can't, but the people who watch them can. By changing minds, we change the world." - Actress Cameron Diaz
