Pope Feared Bush Is The Anti-Christ
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  9-9-2007    48
The Pope, who grew up facing the evils of Hitler and Stalin, knows evil when he sees it. An old article from 2003, but very thought-provoking! Now, I'm no Catholic, but if Pope John Paul ll (rest in peace) had such concerns about the "goodness" of Mr George W. Bush, then I sit up and listen. Are there any Catholics out there who know what the Church's or the current Pope's stand on this issue is now?

Take responsibility for your words
bignosemousie
by bignosemousie  4-9-2007    5
Interesting blog entry on using non-offensive language. I recommend that interested Clippers read the entire entry. I found it thought provoking, especially the part about "gay" and "retarded" being lazy adjectives. Why use them except to be insulting? Why are those words used as insults? It seems strange to me that some people wouldn't dream of using "gay" as an insult but feel free to use "retarded" as a synonym for "stupid."

wildcat
by wildcat  11-11-2008
Each year since 1985, the editors of THE FUTURIST have selected the most thought-provoking ideas and forecasts appearing in the magazine to go into our annual Outlook report. Over the years, Outlook has spotlighted the emergence of such epochal developments as the Internet, virtual reality, and the end of the Cold War. All of these forecasts plus dozens more were included in the report that scanned the best writing and research from THE FUTURIST magazine over the course of the previous year. The Society hopes this report, covering developments in business and economics, demography, energy, the environment, health and medicine, resources, society and values, and technology, will assist its readers in preparing for the challenges and opportunities in 2009 and beyond.

When is torture not torture ?
jetcloud
by jetcloud  11-3-2007    2
"And indeed, American law does now forbid the "cruel, inhuman and degrading" treatment of prisoners, defining it in minute detail: infliction of severe mental or physical pain or suffering, or even threats of death. U.S. military courts have in the past prosecuted soldiers of other countries for using waterboarding on American troops..." Bush and his advisers opposed passage of that law a few years ago, presumably wishing to reserve the right to inflict all those things in the United States' secret overseas prisons. Having lost that fight, though, they devised a neat device to circumvent the new law: The president simply signed secret executive orders declaring that none of the CIA's or the Pentagon's "enhanced techniques" fall within the law's definitions. Members of Congress, who thought they were banning torture when they passed the law, were unhappy to hear about the secret orders, and said so."

Paganism revival in Greece
invictus
by invictus  2-16-2007
... the one-hour ceremony has achieved the near-impossible task of unnerving Greece's powerful Orthodox church. Since Peppa's performance 10 days ago, hierarchs have redirected the venom they usually reserve for homosexuals, Catholics, Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, masons and the "barbaric" Turks at the "miserable resuscitators" of the degenerate dead religion. In fire-and-brimstone sermons priests have slammed the "satanic" New Ageists and fulminated against their idols.

The Human Brain - Ask an expert
pokkets

There are two more questions. They are some of the most frequently asked questions asked about the brain. There are some answers, there are also theories and models, which can show how far we have got in trying to explain something so complicated.. There are some things we do not know yet, and some we may never know, but it never hurts to ask. Someone might come up with another idea.
